you reap what you sow i guess. Everyone grumbles when we miss out on tight ends who don't wanna come here b/c we don't throw to the TE, but if we don't throw to TEs then what's the big deal about missing out on ones who are really good? Are we gonna start throwing to them if they are good receivers? That means throwing to the middle of the field and designing plays in which the TE is the main target. I guess we'll find out this year with Stoneburner, who is not gonna have Nicol and Ballard's role as a blocker who barely ever gets a pass thrown his way. Either he runs routes and catches balls or he does what he did in 2009 as the #2 TE. So far it seems our best bet in TE recruiting is getting big physical blockers like Reid Fragel who doesn't care if he never catches a pass.

Hamilton is a guy who is more of a receiver than a blocker as well. If we offer him and he comes here it'll likely be because of his love for the school and program if anything.

Hamilton & his Dad had a great time at the _ichigan junior day seeing the facilities & spending time with RRod... He likes the way they use their TEs & could see himself fitting into that role very well... Recruiting can be overwhelming but his parents help & he's managing... Still not ready to name a leader or provide a time table...

The whole "ND uses TE's" argument will start subsiding with recruits too... Under Kelly, only once did a TE have more than 20 catches in a season, which was this past year with Gidugli... His offense is much more WR focused...

ND also landed Elder's Alex Welch last year and he's a Rudolph clone.

I really doubt that ND's attractiveness for TE dissipates under Kelly.

Football is really all about creating mismatches then exploiting them. Kelly is now at a place were he can attract top line guys like Rudolph and Welch who are natural matchup headaches. Options such as these were not available to Kelly at any of the previous stops his career so I think there's a danger of constructing limits based on past capabilities.

Kelly is also smart enough to realize that athletic TEs are offensive wild cards that can cause defenses nightmares.

For instance in a two TE personnel grouping as a defense you really have to stay big (linebackers) lest you give up size and lose at the point of attack. With guys like Rudolph & Welch, Kelly can either align them as inline blockers and play power or split them both out wide and use them in space.

If you stay base he can spread them out wide and force your LBs to cover them in space. Best of luck with that.

If you sub to nickle you're giving up size at the point of attack and he can run at you.

Either way he has the initiative and you've got to react to him.

Was being recruited by ND & Cincy before their coaching changes and both are still recruiting him with their new staffs... Through all of his research, ND always ends up being a top option in regards to their academics & football program as a whole... He'll visit South Bend this Spring... No leader, no time table...

Scout $ - Four-Star TE Talks Bay Area Visit
Mario Gomez of CalSportsDigest.com, Mar 3, 2010

Hamilton is embracing the recruiting process & he's thankful for the opportunities he's being given... He's beginning to realize how daunting it will be to learn about each school & build a relationship with each staff... This piece accounts his experiences at Cal & Stanford... He was thoroughly impressed by both staffs & campuses... He's unsure if distance will be a factor & he'd like to commit early if he can... No leader, no time table...

In all fairness, the lack of catches for the Michigan TEs wasn't because of lack of throws to them. I would venture that Koger dropped as many as he caught last year and the same with Webb. No clue what was happening but they couldn't catch a ball. But, they still do not use it as much as other schools and possibly the same as Ohio State.
