Big Summer With Big Schools
By Alex Kline

For rising ninth grader Isaiah Briscoe, success on and off the court has come quickly.

A 2015 6-foot-2 point guard from Newark, New Jersey; Briscoe has developed his game by playing against his level and players who are much older. With his confidence on the court leading to wins, the young guard has accomplished a fair amount in a small amount of time.

?I believe it all started with the last three AAU games of the summer heading into my eighth grade year,? he said. ?I hit two buzzer beaters and received MVP. My dad said that, ?it doesn?t stop here, nobody eats for the next four years, let?s keep the pedal on.?"

During the months of June and July, the St. Benedict?s/New Jersey Playaz rising star gained verbal offers from Rutgers, Seton Hall, DePaul, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Baylor through his performances at Rutgers Team Camp and Hoop Group Elite Camp. After that, he went down to U14 Nationals in Orlando where he took care of business against his own age.

His most impressive performance, though, was not statistically, however, as he played with the U17 NJ Playaz team for their final event of the summer. Briscoe held his own on the court and played well in front of hundreds of top coaches looking on at his talented teammates.

Now, the 2015 talent is drawing early interest from UConn, Duke, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Temple, Florida, Florida State, St. John?s and Kentucky. Phone calls have been setup and letters of interest have been sent out but the top programs around the country are trying to get in early with this future phenom.

Considered by most a top five player in his grade, Isaiah Briscoe will bring his talent to St. Benedict?s this year to team up with Tyler Ennis ?13 and Melvin Johnson ?12 in the Grey Bee?s backcourt. With workouts coming in the fall and plenty of notable games in the winter, the recruitment of the young Briscoe could soar to new levels.

?This has been the greatest two years of my life,? he said. ?This is the ideal way to end my middle school journey. now it?s time for high school and more hard work.?

Briscoe drawing a parade of coaches to St. Benedict's Prep

From Rick Pitino to Sean Miller to John Thompson III, a parade of big-name coaches have come through St. Benedict's Prep in recent days.

And while they're all checking on 2013 point guard Tyler Ennis and a slew of other talented Gray Bees, one young man stands out above all the rest.

Isaiah Briscoe, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound shooting guard from the Class of 2015, has already piled up offers from a number of high-profile programs, and more are coming every day.

"Starting with the live period, every coach has been coming to see me so I'm getting used to it and I'm starting to feel more confident in myself," Briscoe told FiveStarBasketball.com.

"It's been a crazy run," added George Briscoe, Isaiah's father. "I'm just trying to support my son. Every day I'm just thinking about he might hit that wall where nothing goes right, and I need to be there for him when that happens."

So far, so good.

On Monday, with Arizona's Miller and coaches from UConn, Syracuse, Villanova and Cincinnati watching, Briscoe drained several mid-range jumpers, hit a 3-pointer from the left wing and made a couple of steals.

Still, he has yet to play a single high school game and is four years away from college.

"He has his own personal goals," said George, the vice president of a non-profit community action program in Newark. "He wants to be a McDonald's All-American and this and that. So, just try to keep him level-headed and keep working."

Briscoe Visits Arizona, Undecided on High School
June 22nd, 2013

Isaiah Briscoe is in the midst of visiting both colleges and high schools as he weighs his future landing spots.

The 6-foot-2 2015 former St. Benedict?s Prep guard was at Arizona at the end of the week, and thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

?I liked everything about Arizona,? he told SNY.tv. ?They have a beautiful campus, great weather and their fan support is tremendous. The coaching staff is great. They have a Hall of Fame coach in Sean Miller. Coach [Book] Richardson does more than a good job as his assistant and then you have Damon [Stoudamire], who played in the NBA and was Rookie of the Year. It?s just great being around them.?

Briscoe is also being courted by Syracuse, Florida, Ohio State and Indiana, among others. He will visit Florida later this summer.

As for his high school options, he recently announced he was leaving St. Benedict?s and took a trip to see Our Savior New American on Long Island, which produced St. John?s big man Chris Obekpa and has 2014 standout Cheick Diallo.

?The visit with Our Savior was fine,? Briscoe said. ?I had a great time out in Long Island and it was nice talking with E-Jack [Eric Jaklitsch] and the pastor. E-Jack?s a great guy.?

Briscoe is considering Findlay Prep and Huntington Prep, among others, and has no timeframe on a decision.
