Just trying to get on the same page...

EDIT: By the way, it looks like you are asking.

Sorry, not asking. I can't find it on the web, but I think it was in the docu that they show occasionally on wosu. It was the 50's (I want to say '53) underachieving team, losing record. I distincly remember a stuffed Woody with a noose on fire, I could be wrong about the fire though. Maybe he was just hung in effigy....

Well either way, I'm not quite the spring chicken I used to be, but being born in '80 that was way before my time, so I wasn't around when that happened. I don't doubt it either way, as us Bucks fans can be quite fickle at times. (Who would believe that?) Another cool idea, we are about halfway to hi-jacking a thread that is supposed to be based on the Skunkbears. I am willing to keep going if you are....

Their boards may suck, but at lest they have yet to burn a future hall of fame coach in effigy....

BTW..

Could someone photoshop a wolverine in the statue of liberty stance holding the citrus bowl trophy instead of the torch? I think that would work very well.

Certainly hung in effigy, not sure Woody was burnt ... (page 2 of this article)

Pride and Pressure
The Sporting News - August 21, 2000 by Michael Bradley

"... Zelina wasn't too far into his freshman year at Ohio State when he saw something that today would be considered an act of high treason. There, at the corner of 15th and High streets, in the heart of campus, Woody Hayes swung from the end of a rope, hanged in effigy. The year was 1967, and Hayes had yet to be elevated to deity status despite having won three national championships during his first 16 seasons as Ohio State head coach. After straggling to a 4-5 finish the previous year, the Buckeyes had started 1967 2-3."

Paraphrasing a couple lines from a recent Bill K article:

"...of Michigan's 10 commitments, none had an offer from the Buckeyes, while many of the Buckeyes' 9 commitments had offers from Michigan, but still picked Ohio State."

Good find.

I remember the incident. That was my freshman year. They finished the 1967 season 6-3. Then came the 1968 season and everyone loved Woody again.

Here's a good quote from John McKay (former USC head coach):

"I'll never be hung in effigy. Before every season I send my men out to buy up all the rope in Los Angeles." John McKay / USC

UM to replace ND with powerhouse
Michigan athletic director looking for quality opponent

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan won't settle for just any opponent when its football series with Notre Dame takes a break after the 2011 season, the school's athletic director says.

Michigan will play a national power from a major conference, most likely in a home-and-home series, athletic director Bill Martin told The Ann Arbor News for a story posted on its Web site Tuesday evening.

Cont'd ...

yeah im sure UM is looking for a powerhouse school, considering they've cupcaked their out of conference schedule the last couple years and the next few years. They learned there lesson in the 90's when they got beat numerous times by good non-conference opponents, but they for sure wont take the Tressel approach by scheduling home and away series with Texas, NC State, USC, Miami (FL), Virginia Tech, Cal there definition of powerful non-conference opponent is Vanderbilt and North Carolina. Just look at their future schedule, Notre Dame untill 2011, then Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan switching each year. And top it off with Appalachian St. this year

Great post, Messi18Man. Michigan definitely learned there lesson.

My favorite candidates that seem to be on the short list are Texas and Georgia. I'd especially like Texas after the excellent Rose Bowl we played against them, and to further boost the recruiting inroads we've been making there (Mallett, Herron, Stonum, likely McGuffie).

"There are a lot of teams Michigan would like to play and who would like to play Michigan," Martin said.
Martin declined to name names but said he's been approached by several schools.
Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White last week announced that Oklahoma would replace Michigan for two years after the current contract expires.
White said the goal is to play in different parts of the country in an attempt to return Notre Dame to its independent roots.
But the rivalry isn't going to disappear.
Martin said he and White will meet soon to continue contract talks.

I would like to see them up against an SEC team. Like Florida or Tenn or Vanderbilt. Cause we all know the SEC is soooooooooooooo hard to play in. :bonk: I think I would actually cheer for the skunkbears, ugh wait for it-----------------no I wouldn't.

To be fair, they still play Notre Dame 5 more times (if they play in 2011), which gives them plenty of time to find another big-name opponent to replace ND. As far as their playing EMU and WMU, as long we're mandated to play an in-state team every year we'll be facing the same level of opposition (Kent State, Akron, Miami, Bowling Green, Toledo, Cincinnati, etc.). By the way, App State kicked YSU's asses huge in the playoffs last year, so I wouldn't be pointing fingers at Michigan for playing App State when we're playing YSU 2-3 times...
