2009-2010 Lady Buckeyes Basketball (6 straight Big Ten Titles)

No need to be so defensive, take the comment the way it was meant.

What I liked most about this team today was the mental toughness. A lot of teams have a tendency to give up when down and nothing is going right, but the girls today showed what makes a winning team. Adjustments were made, they worked, bench players stepped up when needed and every one of them pulled together for the win.

Even Geno said today on Fox Sports that nobody's perfect, but when everybody strives to be the best they can be good things happen.

I didn't see it mentioned explicitly here, but congrats to the ladies for breaking the B10 (and obviously OSU) single game record for made 3-pointers!

Our win and Wisconsin's win over Purdue all but eliminate PSU and PU from contention - they're 4 back with 5 to play. Wiscy is still within 3 games. Here's our remaining schedule, with a few tough games still left:

Purdue
@Minnesota
@Wisconsin
Michigan State
Northwestern

Even if we somehow dumped all three games against the top half of the B10, wins against Minnesota and Northwestern would clinch yet another share of the B10 title. @Wisconsin on the 18th will likely be the first opportunity to clinch an outright title if the ladies can exact some revenge on Purdue this Thursday.

Purdue actually pulled out that game against Wisconsin so just reverse what you have above and it still applies. A win on Thursday will just about clinch the B10.

Oops! Yeah, I saw that UW-PU score completely backwards, thanks for the catch. Then Thursday's game is indeed to clinch a share of the B10 title, unless my expert fact-checking is failing me again. :wink:

I was going to post this in Sammy's thread but since it really relates to the team as a whole thought I would post it here. I love the way she plays the game and pushes the ball up the floor but sometimes she is growing so fast she is almost out of control. I am pretty sure it was the Indiana game where she had several unforced turnovers in the first half because she was just going too fast to have any control. For the benefit of the team, she really needs to realize when to back it off a little.

Also, the team as a whole needs to continue to shoot well from the outside because a lot of coaches are now catching on that if they stop Lavender they have a shot at winning the game.

That will be the beauty of it all. Because when they are consistently shooting good on from the outside, they will have to come out to guard them and then Lavender will be ready on the inside.

They will have to pick their poison!!!

Lady Buckeyes vs Purdue ~ Thursday ~ can't wait to see the game!!!

OSU-Purdue preview
Thursday, February 11, 2010 3:12 AM

7:30 tonight
? Where: Value City Arena
? TV: Big Ten Network
? Radio: WOSU-AM (820)
? Records: Ohio State 23-3, 11-2 Big Ten; Purdue 13-11, 8-5

? Matchup to watch: Purdue's guards, freshman KK Houser in particular, repeatedly beat Ohio State defenders off the dribble in the Boilermakers' 63-61 upset victory last month in Mackey Arena. The OSU defense has to stop the ball and keep Purdue from gaining such easy access to the lane.
? Notable: A basket by Chelsea Jones with three seconds remaining lifted Purdue to a 58-56 win over Wisconsin on Sunday. The Boilermakers are 7-0 at home in conference play but 1-5 on the road. Defensively, Purdue is the best in the Big Ten at limiting the opposition's three-point percentage (.288). The Buckeyes set a Big Ten record by hitting 17 three-pointers in an 86-73 win at Penn State on Sunday. They are making a Division I-best 49.1 percent of their three-point shots. Ohio State is 17-0 at home this season. Top three-point shooter Brittany Johnson (50.4 percent) is listed as day-to-day after suffering a sprained right ankle Sunday.
? Next: at Minnesota, 12:30 p.m. Sunday

37-16 Buckeyes 6and change to go. The whole team is playing with great intensity. KK Houser sparked a mini run that got Purdue as close as 14 but it's been a strong double digit lead for most of the half. Shooting is great, 5-6 from 3; very balanced scoring too.

41-16 at half. It's been pretty physical and the refs seemed to make a few more calls in the last couple of minutes. If it gets called tighter I don't think that will be good for Purdue.

Stats - Jantel has 10 and 6 boards and has really dominated on both ends
Brittany and Tayler both have 8 - no signs of the bad ankle for Brittany and she continues her hot shooting with 3-5, 2-3 from 3; this is Tayler's best and most aggressive game in a month - 3 boards a steal, excellent defense and has been in the middle of alot of good things. Sarah also playing really well with 6 points and really good defense Sammy has 5 and 7 assists, Andrea has 4 off the bench Everyone who was in the game played pretty well - Amber, Alison, Maria and Shavelle

It will be a good boost to see another high intensity half to end the game
