Boren to LB IMO is an option mostly because while UFM is talkin keeping the I-form it will be limited in comparison to the snaps out of the spread. And he would be utilized sparingly you would think, mostly for pass protection. Would it be a step back in the FB position in the I of course but what is the value added of the move is the real question.

While Grant is unproven one would assume his time is coming at least you would hope. He has all the tools to be a great backer he just needs to stop thinking and play as fast as he truly is. Shazier well he proved what he brings to the table and with UFM speed is a premium enough said. And there is some speed coming in as well as one or two more on the recruiting trail that could step in and bring alot of speed to the position.

But Williams to backer makes alot of sense IMO if he is healthy and gets his speed back thats a big boy with some wheels right there to add to a what on paper looks like a much improved pass rush. But dont rule out a safety or two making the move to LB. At Florida there were more than one HS safety that made the switch.

OSU has grabbed two great DL classes. Each DL scholarship given 2011 and 2012 were good decisions. But, next year there will be 16 or 17 talented players fighting for playing time in 4 positions.(not counting Fellows or Perry). The coaches are going to have some difficult decisions to distribute playing time, and determining red-shirts.

There has also been some exaggerations about how beneficial it is to have a deep, deep bench. Starters are starters for a reason, and usually only 6 DL's will be needed per game. Even in blow-out games, it is difficult to get more than 9 different players on the field. If I were Michael Bennett, I would probably ask to change to Guard to be able to play every down.

If I were Williams or Simon, I would want some LB practice time. If the defense is schemed correctly, they could be monsters. And, their NFL careers might depend on some LB development.

Just don't be ridiculous. Spence is not and never will be a safety. Saying something like that makes you lose any credibility.

And you aren't these guys so you really don't have a clue about "what they want or what hey should ask for".

With all due respect.... I was giving my opinion of BUCKIN CRAZY's Comment: "what are the chances Meyer would move either Nate Williams or John Simon to there future position in the NFL at linebacker?"

I have watched current players, and watched the recruits' highlight reels, and I agree that I am not in position to accurately assess all of their capabilities. The comments are my opinion only. I am not sure how my thoughts aggravated you, but I will be mindful of imagining myself in OSU player's or coach's positions in the future.

I agree that it is unlikely that Spence would move to Safety. But, Shazier or Perry, (if they have the hips) might be run-support Safeties. And, I could imagine Spence at Middle Linebacker - even if he gains 20 lbs.

From his H/S tape and what he showed this year, I believe that Bennett will be a first round NFL draft pick whether he is DL or OL. I am pretty confident that, next year, he would be our best offensive linemen, and he will eventually be a better D-Linemen than Hankins or Simon, but I don't think he will be better then them next year -- so he may not get as much field exposure.

Perhaps, someday, one of my comments will win you over.

Perry is a LEO prospect. he has decent to mediocre speed for a MLB and lacks the speed to play OLB, let alone safety.

As for being a run support safety, those have become extinct in recent years. Both of your safeties have to be able to cover to defend modern offenses

I disagree -- Perry may not look like he is moving quickly (kinda like Pryor), but watch his tape, and see how fast he gets to the QB, and how he quickly distances himself from tiny dbs when he is carrying the ball. His track performances, also verify his explosiveness and speed. He will be faster than any Buckeye LB not named Shazier; and probably faster than one or two of our Safeties.

He will probably not be a safety, but it has been suggested in several posts, he could play it or TE or WR. He will most likely be a LB, or an DE; but the coaches should be excited to test him, and decide how he can best be developed to help the team.

Facing a big running team, like the 2010 Badgers, a larger safety would have been good to have on the field.

As a frequent photographer of Olentangy HS sports, I watched him 4 times in person this season, and multiple times over his career (including twice last spring in track).

He's outrunning players who won't be playing football after HS.

Watch the ground under his feet. He's clearly not flying. Good speed for his size, but clearly not overly fast when talking about linebacker.

Care to backup that outlandish claim? Who are these safeties who are slower than Perry?

He is a phenomenal athlete, but he's a LEO. Tight ends don't need the agility & quickness to cover receivers. They need to be mismatches, and athletic monstrosities are tough to handle.

The LEO position was made to use hybrids like Josh.

Perry would get smoked by Bollinger, let alone a Tolzien or Wilson. And you definitely don't want him as the last line of defense if Wilson gets past the first seven.

Thanks for taking the time, without sarcasm -- you have rationale reason for your opinion, and I appreciate your explanations.

I still believe he has good speed, and will be an all star for the Bucks. And, there may be several positions which he could excel.

serious question here guys... With the scholarship limitations coming up won't deciding to redshirt/not redshirt guys be huge? Because we are fairly loaded next year with Simon-Goebel-Hankins-Williams to go with a slew of others is it resonable to believe this would be a good opportunity to redshirt one of the incoming great DL recruits?
