Kickoff returns carry Knights to playoff win
By Jim Isabella
POSTED: 11:34 p.m. EST, Nov 06, 2009

...
The touchdown came two plays later when the Knights surprised the Bruins by coming out of the shotgun at the 5-yard line with junior quarterback Dan Hinton hitting a wide open LaTroy Lewis, who had lined up as a tight end and no one picked him up.

If you thought the 2011 class was loaded with DE talent (Miller, Hayes, Rock.....), then just wait until 2012. Besides McMullen and Lewis, there is Toledo Whitmer's Chris Wormsley, Canton McKinley's Sevon Pittman, Cincinnati Taft's Adolphus Washington, and Mentor's Tom Strobel.

That is absolutely huge talent at DE in one class...That would be great talent spread out over 2 or 3 years...

Would love to see a couple of them be able to grow into DTs...

Well with McMullen already being listed at 255 he could probably have a chance to at least be a Worthinton/Rose/Heyward type guy in the 280 range who can play inside. But seriously with these guys coming from some of the same schools you have to wonder what in the water in Toledo/Akron/Canton cities. Sorry for all the fowardslashes. Or Backslash.

A bit more on LaTroy Lewis:

Coach Schuman's Recruiting and Sports Blog

DE LATROY LEWIS, 6-4/225, AKRON (OHIO) ARCHBISHOP
free_video.gif
Lewis interview
2012 CLASS
CONSIDERING: Lewis said after the game that schools in the midwest were contacting him. It is early, and he simply left it at that.
PERFORMANCE: Recorded a sack, a pair of tackles for loss, and caught a two-point conversion pass in a 14-11 playoff win over Padua Franciscan.
STRENGTHS: Lewis is very quick off the ball, and uses his length to close on the quarterback quickly. Like his teammate, Greg McMullen, he seems to be mature and able to handle the pressure that will ultimately come with being a major recruit. By no means should Lewis be overshadowed by anyone, including his freakish teammate. Hoban happens to have to of the very best young defensive ends in Ohio.
WEAKNESSES: Nothing glaring. I'll be picky and say he can be a bit stronger at the point of attack and holding the edge against the run. Plenty of time to improve that. - G.L.

Really liking the way this class is shaping up...

I would put Dunn at the top of the class...

I would say a top 5 of Dunn, Bradley, Gant, McMullen, McGowen...

Guys like Lewis, Wormley, Pittman, Ball, Mauk are guys that are going to put hteir name in the hat before all is said an done, and lots of the film that is out there for these guys is only freshmen film, so there is a lot of room to grow in this class still...

Wants to concentrate on football and is interested in playing further south because he likes the warmer weather... Has been able to see W. Michigan, Wake, Duke, & North Carolina while visiting with his brother Chase (likely D1 WR recruit)... Also interested in Ball State & Penn State...

Stumbled across this film...very impressive:

2012 Antonio Johnson - Shaker Heights - Promo

From last season:

Shaker Heights hangs tough against Mentor, but falls 21-7 - ohiohssports.com

The defense was led by Antonio Johnson, who had 11 tackles a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

"He was like Ray Lewis out there," Watkins said. "Defensively, we stifled Mentor's passing attack. We had more yards passing than them. They did get us a couple times on long runs. A couple times they ran when we thought they would pass, and that caught us off guard."

Not sure if he has been mentioned yet, but Luke Roberts (2012) 6'2 225 LB of Lancaster is one to watch. He has been invited to OSU select camp (as has his teammate Aaron Woosley, 2012 6'4 240 DE). The big thing about Luke is that he is still only 15 years old!

Will be camping this summer at OSU, Kentucky and Penn State.

Here is a clip of him last year as a 14 year old Sophmore from scouting ohio. Not sure if he is Buckeye level yet, but has so much room to grow with his age.
