Agree... just like football. For the first 2/3 of his career the only way Woody Hayes got a 10-win season was if his team went undefeated and won the Rose Bowl whereas 10-win seasons for Tressel and Meyer were/are expected, especially with 2-3 wins pretty much guaranteed with the OOC schedule.

Same thing in basketball, Matta is almost guaranteed 10-12 wins with the way OOC games are scheduled. That means to get a 20+ win season he needs to be just above .500 in conference play. He also has more chances to add to that win total in the post season with the Big Ten Tournament and the additional rounds in both the NCAA and NIT. At this point 20+ win seasons should be expected from Matta with 25+ win seasons occurring most of the time (and has happened the past 5 years and 7 of 10 total).

Well since Matta's thread is locked, which I really do not understand accepted it might help getting people banned, I will post my thoughts here.

I will just say that for all those people who did not appreciate what Matta did this season are not very loyal Matta fans. He can only tell the players so much and that it is up to the players to do the work and execute.

Also, I think quite a few people are going to be disappointed next season because with the departure of Craft, Smith Jr., ADV, and probably Ross we are going to be extremely thin and will not have much of a bench so those people advocating for a more up-tempo style of play are going to have to wait a couple seasons because the depth is just not going to be there for a while.

Coach Matta also is probably going to be heavily criticized if he does not bring in quite a bit of top level talent next year including a big man. The only problem with bringing in the type of talent that everyone wants to see is that the majority of these guys play one or two years and they are history and we are once again back again at square one. I think Matta has done one hell of a job when it comes to recruiting because the atmosphere at the Schott is certainly not that persuasive to an incoming recruit.

I just hope everyone does not go bananas next season when we do not play in the Dance because I do not think that all of the fault should be placed on Coach Matta which some people are doing after our loss to Dayton.

Surprised by this post LitlBuck as you generally seem to be the optimist. I read elsewhere about bleeding that needs to be stopped and ships that need to be righted.

We had an off year. It happens.

We bring back 5 players who were part of the regular rotation and 2 of whom started. They will be joined by the #6 recruiting class, a RS frosh who was highly rated and sat only because of injury, and now a solid transfer who can play immediately.

IIRC in Thad's first four season he three times replaced four starters and won or contended for the B1G championship each of those years - often with a 6 or 7 man rotation.

I was very disappointed this season and have a hard time explaining all that happened (although some is evident). But as a one in 10 year occurrence no explanation is necessary. A starting lineup that includes Scott, Thompson, Lee, and Amir is a solid foundation. We have seven other potential contributors to round it out. No reason to believe next year wont bring a pony in the same way that this year brought a lump of coal (a 25-10, fifth in the B1G lump of coal at that).

As for the morons that are already whining about Matta - the IQ ranking reads moron, imbecile, idiot.

We flatter them by calling them morons.

I do not know what to say because when it comes to Ohio State basketball I am usually very optimistic but when I looked at the roster and saw what was coming back I just did not think that we would finish in the top 5 in the conference.

I guess my rationale behind my thinking was looking at our front line which would have consisted of Thompson, Loving, Williams or McDonald and probably Diop-Bates. I do not see Tate as a big contributor next year but maybe he could prove me wrong. I would not even mention Bell because Matta already said that he is going to redshirt. I just did not see that frontline as one that could defend or rebound with good teams.

I have no idea who is going to backup Scott at PG. Perhaps Williams for possibly even Russell but I have not seen either of those guys play in person. I know that both Williams and Russell are supposed to be very good shooters but it also will be there first year at the college level.

I guess my tune has changed with the commitment of Lee from Temple who I believe will significantly upgrade our frontcourt but our backcourt is still a little bit of a concern. I do not know if Bates-Diop can play the SG or not but PG is really a concern. I just hope that Shannon really works on his game this off-season.

With regards to Thad, I will always be on his bandwagon come hell or high water. I probably think more of him than any coach Ohio State has. He does a tremendous job with what I consider limited resources.
