Let me wrap my head around this... UM is recruiting huge, between the tackles RBs, bigger possession receivers, and slow/huge OLinemen to run a West Coast Offense? Lol I can only hope that Borges is dumb enough to try it and that Hoke somehow green lights it. Seriously, that would be awesome to watch 230 pound backs try and get to the outside to stretch the field horizontally. Especially when Shazier,Perry, et al are waiting to crush them. And don't even get me started on the OL philosophy where RichRod's recruits are actually more desirable than Hoke's since they have to move and pull in the WCO. But, as you know, you can't fix stupid.

Then northfleet, but moved primarily slot. Than we have the pounding backs that you are trying to make a point with yes, green, smith and rawls. And we have 2 tackles here from the Rich rod years and a smaller but quicker center in miller. And who said Kalis couldn't pull? That is one of his strenghts. And receivers, Michigan has no dynamic receivers yet, some guys who run better routes. So yes there will be some west coast being run this year.

So Johnson, who had a total of 5 receptions in high school, is supposed to be a factor when he couldn't even garner one second of playing time last year and was subsequently redshirted? Or maybe Hayes, who as a RS frosh had 18 total carries (10 of those against UMass in garbage time) is supposed to be that guy? If they were both non factors with Fitz's injuries, why do you think they'll be rushing or receiving weapons this year?

Norfleet is a full time slot WR now, and none of the other backs you mentioned are receiving threats in the slightest.

With regard to Kalis.... Great, you have one guard who can pull and then two other interior line positions that are still wide open almost a week before the season. All I'm saying is that if Fitz doesn't return to 100% of what he was in 2011, it will be tough to put even 25 ppg up this year. Good luck.

So here's a little light reading:

The main goals for the fullback and running back position in the West Coast offense are to be able to block and catch. In this offense these positions also have to able to pick up blitzing linebackers. The most important value for these positions is to be able to catch. These positions in the West Coast offense will probably have more catches than rushing attempts

A common misconception about the WCO is the use of the RB and FB. Many think that they must be pass blockers first and all other skills second. Actually though, the most successful running backs are excellent pass catchers coming out of the backfield. Backs like Curtis Martin are an excellent example. He was great in pass blocking but very dangerous coming out of the backfield. The backs must also be able to carry the ball, but are more utilized in the passing game. Small agile backs are preferred to big backs because they must be quick enough to block, but also turn upfield in the passing game.

Yes and so does the WR and TE with the quick pass. Yes the wc offense tries to stretch the field, but it's not just the running backs who do so.

I agree with a lot of what your saying. Since Green got so fat I forgot that coming out of highschool he was known to be a VERY good pass catcher. I am not like germ I do not think we will run the west coast like a religion but I can guarante there will be wc installations in this offense. I do not expect this offense to be worse than what ever the ppg devin averaged last year in his first 5 starts. What I love about Devin is he wants to be so good. He is going to the Manning camp, the opening, studying and working with qb guru's. He was pretty good last year end of season (barring the 2nd half kick ass OSU gave him lol) and I think he will be better. It will not be a shock now as many analysts are calling for him to be there right behind Braxton.

I get what you're saying. The offense will be pound the rock with solid backs, quick flairs to the wideouts, or deep bombs to WR's. Denard made Al include designed runs a feature of the O. He'll still include a few of those, but the other aspects are still the same. So unless the wideouts are better at eluding tacklers, Devin is an elusive runner (doubtful), or the O-line improved, expect the offense to be around the same production level.
