2014 Offense Discussion

We have been waiting for misdirection, a reverse, a screen, a draw, a delayed handoff or counter......anything to throw the defense off and to make a defense pay for bringing extra pressure and we haven't seen it yet. If we don't see it tomorrow night they are going to lose. When you have a dominant o-line you can just line up and run right at people when everyone in the stadium knows what you are about to do. Well....we don't have a bruiser (Hyde) and we don't have the dominant o-line this year and have been stuffed on 3rd and short and 4th and short on numerous occasions. We have great athletes on offense but deception/misdirection and making a defense react to something they have not seen is key to busting big plays, especially with an aggressive defense. Herman better open the play book or I'm afraid the result will be the same as last year's B10CG.

So this nice thing is that the tOSU misdirection is still a secret, didn't have to show it.

Could have used an offensive spark in the 2nd half of the PSU game. Cutting it kind of close if you are leaving an overtime shoot out with bullets still in the chamber. Sorry, poor choice of words. More like a defensive slugfest rather than a shoot out. If we were going to see it, that would have been the time to bust it out. Herman goes into a shell when the game gets tight....just sayin'.

Did you mean Virginia Tech? But honestly, we weren't about to pull gadgets on the road, at night, and against the largest crowd we will ever see not wearing S&G. It is in the playbook but as with any misdirection/trick play, you have to prepare to execute it the week you play. If you try it out on Saturday with little practice...forget it. I think there will be some wrinkles in the playbook that are practiced into a pulp in prep for this game.

No, frankly the only reason Psu got back into that game was because of barrett's pick six. That was a bad team that was in a deep hole. They did not need to open up their bag of tricks or risk a jalin pass

I really liked showing that last week in a sure win to force Sparty to scout and account for that this week on the already efficient wildcat looks.

They actually tried an inside shovel pass at the goal line late in the game. The play failed because of good defense and OSU tried to do it out of a empty backfield with the RB in the H back position. There was no threat on the opposite pitch, so we lost the numbers game.

I honestly cannot remember a time that our offense was so strong and efficient in my lifetime. We've had games with more points and more yards, but this was against a damn good defense and the offense just was surgical in their dissection of the opponent. I don't know that I can expect to see something like that again for a long time, so need to savor this one. Going to Sparty at night and playing that efficiently, just beautiful.
