2014 Offense Discussion

Alabama got a freshmen that is about the same size as marcelys and they are starting him, why cant we?

The guys we got out there are getting there behinds handed to them anyway.
Do you mean the #4 overall player in the nation is better than a top 400 project type player as a true freshman? I happen to be 6'4" and I've been begging to get Matta to play me. I mean I'm bigger than Aaron Craft for goodness sakes.

We now have an opportunity (3 weeks)to "fix" the offensive line "problems" for the most part. We know that every team we play now will dare us to beat them with the pass. I have faith in Warriner and the coaches to get the offensive line at least serviceable for the rest of the season.

Is the problem that they just need time to improve?
Or is the problem that some of the guys on our O line suck?

I don't think the Oline is going to just be "fixed" with coaching. Its going to take time, effort and conditioning. The talent just isn't quite ready.

If you think that he had 17 designed runs called for him then you weren't watching Ohio State play Virginia Tech last night. The vast majority of those 17 runs were Barrett running for his life because the pass protection broke down.

Slow developing pass plays against a blitz. Happened all night, with no adjustment. Still on the playcalling.

And there were plenty of option plays and designed QB runs...way too many.

Bottom line TH's creativity is going to be tested this season but so far his idea of play calling is Hyde middle for 7, deep ball incomplete, Braxton 40 on a QB draw. Is that game planning and adjusting or is it just superior talent making a move?

Ask yourself this... when was the last time you said to yourself "my god is the play calling unpredictable, this looks great!"

We will see what he comes up with now that he doesn't have Braxton to make him look briliant, carlos to break tackles and an offensive line that could move the defense 8 or 9 in the box.

Pretty good points. I bolded that part because honestly (I cannot believe I am saying this), that is exactly what I was thinking watching the Bengals new hurry up offense made me think. They didn't execute in the red zone but they moved the ball with ease and kept the Ravens off balanced all game. With the type of weapons we have and deficiencies in the pass blocking department, that type of high-paced and quick throw offense would be ideal. Of course we aren't going to be able to install a new offense now and we actually have to execute for it to work, but something similar to that would be nice.
