2015-16 Ohio State Quarterback Discussion

How was JT a supporting actor when he and the play calling are the primary reason that Cincy couldn't commit to stopping anything. JT is dissecting the defense and getting the ball out of his hand so quick that it's paying dividends in YAC's and spreading out the defense out so the run game works even better.
If you truly believe that Barrett was the one calling the plays I've got a bridge to sell you.

Can't believe you are going to discredit a 45-1st down performance by a RS freshman QB. How was JT a supporting actor when he and the play calling are the primary reason that Cincy couldn't commit to stopping anything. He didn't go deep because he didn't have to. Why go deep when you are killing them underneath. It did set up to late passes over the top but I'm amazed at what this passing facet is bringing to our offense.
Why go deep? Because WRs are wide open with nothing stopping them from scoring. He didn't pick up 45 first downs on his own.

fantasy football is bull[Mark May]. that crap ruins the game.

Your view on fantasy football doesn't change the fact that racking up yards and touchdowns through the air is easier than on the ground. If they were equal, the best single season performances wouldn't be so far apart (basically 5,000 and 50 for passing with 2,000 and 30 for rushing). This is what makes Barrett look "even" or slightly better than Miller in your comparison of stats. JT is the better passer, Braxton is the better runner. Overall in the college game, Braxton is better.

I can agree with this. I see Barrett as a Guiton V2 right now, only that he's playing the whole season "interim" vice a few games at a time like Guiton did. I think Miller is the starter next year, but at the first sign of his struggling or, heaven forbid, another injury, Barrett can jump right back in without any loss of continuity.
The only thing that makes me nervous still mili is the fact that Braxton at that point will not have played in a game for 1.5 years and will yet again miss all of the spring camp and probably worked in slowly in the fall. Can we afford to interrupt our cohesion to phase BM in and Barrett out? Because Barrett is going to get every rep in the spring and a majority in the fall. Can Braxton be fully prepared by game 1 next year? If so then either way we are sitting pretty but if Braxton comes in and is rusty I'd hate to lose a game due to BM not having the reps.

I understand your apprehension, but I think Miller will be good to go. And we still have to see how JT pans out the rest of this season. If Miller didn't have the experience that he does, it would be tougher for him to get spun back up once he's 100% cleared to play, but this is where that experience helps out greatly.

Next year coach will do what is best for the team.

As what is best for Braxton and JT, that is something else.

Not sure what Braxton's NFL chances were pre injury or what they will be after this season and next, but he could be a weapon in many ways without the ball. Not sure he could transition to play that slot / Percy Harvin role and come back from injury and win some snaps over the depth we have there either really.

Not to go all hoops with it, but to me JT is the point guard and Braxton is the shooting guard.

Yea great problems to have.

Being JT's thread, very excited for the future. He has champion written all over him. It starts with him leading us to back to the Big10 championship game and finishing it off this time. We should be pretty good by the end of the season. Would love to sneak in at #4 some how.

If you're going to count Barrett's 300-yard passing games against defensive juggernauts like Kent State and Cincinnati as ammo in your argument that Barrett is currently a better passer than Miller was, then you may need to come back with something more valid. Miller does hold the school record for 300-yard total offense games (10).
1362 total yard in 3 games in 2012 (Miami of Ohio, UCF, California) for Miller vs 1339 total yards in 2 games in 2014 for Barrett (Kent State, Cincinnati)

I'd say that's a fair comparison. While I feel Braxton's experience and dynamic playmaking ability are a valuable asset, you can't deny Barrett's performance and passing ability. With Miller, teams were willing to make us one dimensional. Now granted, with Millers evasive ability and Carlos Hyde, that dimension wasn't exactly an issue that was easy to overcome. With Barrett, especially after he continues to grasp the offense, challenging him to throw against you would be a big mistake. I just haven't seen anything that makes me expect Miller can do the same when it comes to passing.

Just my $ .02
