2015 CFB Playoff Summer Meetings (rule changes...etc)

BigWoof31

"Barkin' up the wrong tree"
Hate starting a new thread for this stuff but thought it was relevant enough.
The CFBP Committee is meeting this week to discuss 2015 plans and propose any tweaks in the system.
Generally speaking, most members and AD's feel like it was a rousing success. I suspect there will some interesting discussions coming from the meeting.

Feel safe in knowing that despite this being an ESPN piece - there is very little editorializing here. Mostly a list of discussion points.

Points of note:

1). Expect oceans of complaints coming from the Big 12 and a lengthy discussion on the relevance and importance of a 13th game.
I really don't know why. It's clearly relevant and important.

2). The Rose Bowl has no intent to bid on the Championship. That's a surprise.
The rest of the bids look like cities who are bidding for the Superbowl. Atlanta, Minneapolis, Charlotte, Jacksonville, Miami, Santa Clara are in the mix for 2018-2020 host sites.
Basically any city that's getting a new stadium for their NFL Team in the upcoming years is going to make a run at the CFB Playoff Championship.

3). Probably more BuckeyeBros will be aware of this (given 2014 results), but I guess there was alot of discussion and contention around allowing families of players a stipend to travel to the tournament cities? The committee will discuss a $3000 allowance for two legal guardians.

Annie Apple, mother of starting CB Eli Apple for Ohio State, was at the forefront of pushing for this, with help from others (including Meyer).

Meh. All we ever heard prior to Nebraska joining the Big Ten (to give the Big Ten 12 teams and the conference championship game) was that the Big Ten "had it easy" because they didn't have to play the 13th game.

Anonymous Big 12 said:
It's "so tough" to win the Big 12, SEC, and ACC, and then win the conference championship game. The Big Ten doesn't need to win that 13th game. We should get chosen before the Big Ten does.

Now the Big 12 has lost their 13th game, the Big Ten has added the 13th game, and now it isn't fair that the Big Ten teams get to play that 13th game, but the Big 12 can't. Go fly a fork in your eye, Big 12. If you don't like it, tell Texas to let a couple of more teams in and get your own conference championship game. We'll even give you Penn State. Now just find 1 more team.

Not to change the subject, but Texas has managed to destroy every conference in which it has been a member. You would have to be crazy to join that conference at this point in time. You reap what you sow.

I actually shot my own idea full of holes...those conferences would have to split the $$$ between more than 20 teams-never happen. I'm sure the Mountain West wouldn't mind, but the Longhorn network and friends wouldn't be into it.

If B1G Commish Delaney is content to keep the number of CFBP teams at four, he'll find a willing partner in new SEC Commish Greg Sankey.

“Generally more is seen as better, and I’m not sure that’s always the case,” he said. “There’s a great toll that’s taken through multiple rounds of playoffs, taken on the participants, the season continues, the travel."

“My reaction was all positive,” he said. “Obviously we want to have a team win, so that was a significant negative, but I thought the presentation of the games, the attention that was focused on the competition, and those involved in the competition, the storylines that played out – Ohio State’s third-string quarterback leading his team, Marcus Mariota, the focus through the year on selection – I thought it protected the season well and you could argue magnified the interest in the regular season and then at the end of the year provided a pinnacle moment for the sport, which was exciting to see.”

True. And how ironic that the two top teams in the Big 12 are TCU and Baylor, teams Texas left in a lurch when breaking up the SWC and joining the Big 8, 10, 12, 11, 10... and teams they invited back into "their" conference when they needed a CCG. Don't see much about this over at Shaggy, just bitching about THE and dotting the i.

Oh, and try and put a CCG requirement on CFP as long as Notre Dame is around to grouse about equity.

Maybe we could start a rumor that Gene Smith invited Switzer to dot the i by castrating a bull......
