FIRE BEALS
Regarding Beals status. I had a PM conversation with Jeff Svoboda of Buckeye Sports Bulletin. I asked him what Beals situation was. He responded with the following. (I assume the Gene he references is Gene Smith):

I asked Gene a few weeks ago about it and he said Beals isn't going anywhere. I was not sure since they never signed him to a new deal during the season but basically Gene's answer was "he's our guy" and was very enthusiastic about bringing him back. They love what he's done culture-wise off the field, now it's just about having the on-the-field results match.

More from Jeff Svoboda (quoting Gene Smith):

"He's our head coach. We've bought into Greg. He's done a marvelous job. The culture is there. People don't see the academics, the behavior, the type of recruits we're getting, and we have a lot of guys coming back next year. Greg is our guy. There's no change coming. He's done a marvelous job with what we have asked him to do."

I understand that the standards at Ohio State are high: academics, athletics, results. I also understand that not all people can reach such standards. But if you can't, you have no business coaching at Ohio State. If the Baseball Program was as highly visible as the football program, Beals would be at least on the hot seat. He is the Cooper of OSU baseball.

The fact that Smith is clueless about this fact does not surprise me at all.

Sort of reminds me of the hockey program. They are average at best but did not cause any problems so gene is fine with that. Sometimes I wonder if he knows how visible the baseball and hockey programs might become if they were competitive year after year. Sort of like wrestling or maybe even tennis.
