Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

The short version is that our o-line seems to get better every week. My only concern is when an announcer mentions Decker. He seems to jump offsides shortly after that. Ed is one hell of a coach tho and we all want him to stay 4ever...

We have our on problem with an Olineman that constantly gets false start penalties, his name is Leon Brown. Our center is undersized but apparently he is great at calling out the blocking assignments or else he wouldn't be on the field. He has improved some as the year went along. Austin Shephard the right guard doesn't get much recognition but he always does his job and is a great role player on the Oline. The Left side is the strong side. Arie Kouandjio the left guard is finally healthy and can be a real asset in the running game. He is right next to Cameron Robinson who is a true freshman Left Tackle that has played like a dominant veteran. Cam has been banged up since before the LSU game, but has played through the leg injury so I am guessing he is very excited to finally get time to heal up again. He will be a future top 5 NFL draft pick when his time comes.

At TE we don't have anyone spectacular. Vogler can make a catch or two but is mostly in there for blocking. Sophomore OJ Howard who is suppose to be our future NFL TE, and has the look with a tall athletic physique, but hasn't truly been transformed yet into a player who can take over a game and make a defense adjust and account for him. FB Jalston Fowler is our blue collar do everything player. He lines up and blocks very well for the RBS, he carries the ball now and again in short yardage, he is athletic enough to be a receiving threat in the redzone or on 3rd and short.

Christion Jones handles most of our kicks. He does an adequate job but isn't a huge threat to return one to the house as long as your coverage is solid.

Well we went through a stretch ( not with this group of guys) that I swear I thought false start was an actual play call.

What does Bama do well consistently? What do they struggle with much of the time? What is something that bounces between the two categories?

We don't break off very many long runs but are two nimble RBs both consistently run well in the zone blocking schemes, finding holes and cut back lanes. Sims does really well at avoiding sacks. Coop always finds a way to get open and White has been a consistent WR2. The defense has been great at shutting down the run as well as attacking any short quick throws or screens. We have had trouble defending the long deep home run type balls. We are a break but don't bend defense that tries to stop every play. The CB's play on islands quite a bit so we are susceptible to the deep throw. Especially this year (and last) without a talented shut down Corner. The fg kicking game has also suffered and the scholarship kicker has back issues that flare up. We have a short yard kicker who is pretty decent. The punting game is pretty phenomenal. Our true freshman punter JK Scott will no doubt play on Sundays and can flip the field on most kicks. Depriest is good at stuffing the run but can be a liability in pass coverage as some have noted.
