Alternatives to Time Warner cable in Columbus?

Alright, I'm all moved in and and I still have Time Warner. It took me five fucking minutes to get to this page.

Is WOW! good enough for me to play games online? Mainly Call of Duty 4. If someone says yes, TW is getting a call tomorrow and they can come pick up their worthless pieces of plastic and wire.

I did a speed test and I'm running at about 4kbps.
Are you in another apartment or a home?

In your position, I would call TW and ask them to pull a new line from the pole to the dwelling. Then I would pull a new line inside from their hand-off to the wall. There are a number of things that could be causing your connection woes that won't be fixed by switching carriers until/unless you rule out the indoor wiring.

Another apartment. Would they actually do all that?

I rather enjoy TW's customer service. Like the time I called to get my on demand service restored, and the rep told me I should be happy that it works at all. Some people don't even have On demand. I tried to bust her ear drums by screaming at a very high pitch.

Called them last night about the unreliability of their internet service. Of course I can barely understand anything the woman is saying. She said the solution to slow speed on the net was clearing the cookies...After explaining to her that the service is fine, but it doesn't work all the time like it should..She again suggested it was cookies..Two days ago I reinstalled vista ultimate..I'm not a total dumbass about computers..She acted like she had no computer knowledge other then a book in front of her...Finally the last time I said I have cleared all cookies...She suggested that it was a computer problem..

They told me to clear my cookies as well. I also did, and it didn't help. Imagine that. Clearing the cookies didn't make the internet better that myself, and others, use.

If you are not getting the connection speed you are paying for than they should.

If the cable from the pole to the dwelling is old, or if there are old splitters in the route, it will screw up the cable modem and cause it to drop sync from the provider. Sometimes the modem will drop for a second, sometimes a couple of minutes, and sometimes even hours. If there is any static on any channels on your TV, then the indoor wiring is probably not up to snuff. TV static is symptomatic of a cheap multi-tap somewhere in the line or a cable end that is improperly crimped, loose, or just plain old.

This is a big problem with multi-tenant units because there is often only one line to the building, and that line is then split, possibly several times, into the apartments, with those lines then being further split again for multiple rooms using cheap $5 aluminum 3-way and 4-way splitters. Two or more splitters can induce all sorts of headaches, especially if there are unterminated ends. Signal amplifiers, which are also used in large apartment complexes, are troublesome as well.

If the lights on the cable modem cycle, then it is a wiring problem that probably will not be solved even if you switch providers. If the lights on the cable modem stay on and the PC/Activity light continues blinking, then you know its your PC. So, if you're seeing the lights on the cable modem reset, I would call both TW and your landlord and demand a dedicated wire capable of supporting 7Mbsp and even 10Mbps RoadRunner.

If you just moved in, TW should not charge you for "the truck roll." The key is to get the tech there. He'll speak English and have sympathy for your plight. Explain the problem to him, and he will pull a new line. Ask him nicely and he may even pull two, one dedicated for RoadRunner, and another for all the TVs.

The activity light is on constantly. It might blink once every minute or two. My roommate is experiencing the same problem on a different PC. Xbox Live lags when I try to play games online, as well. So it's not my computer.

No static on any TV channels. The cable TV has been fine.

I'll have them send a tech.

Time Warner was out last night and this morning, I live on Northwood. They said it was a "local outage" does anyone else have any info?

I switched from TWC to WOW when I lived on 11th after TWC had at least 2 outages a month. I used WOW for 9 months and 0 outages all 9 months.

I just moved and my new roommates already have TWC and the third day I lived there the internet was down. (Internet kind of important seeing as I play online poker as a job)

I'm currently experiencing my weekly issue with TW. The cable TV picture is too big for the screen, and the settings won't change. I was talking to the online chat guy and he tried to blame it on the fact that we had power outages in the area. No suggestions for a fix, nothing. Just said sorry.

In TW's online chat, I can't get a charge dropped from my bill, and I can't drop my HBO package. Last time they couldn't help me with my technical problem with my box. What's the point in online chat again..?

Anyone have insight? I'm moving to Gahanna in a few weeks and that's all I can get there :( what are your thoughts about them?

Since my work schedule is changing here shortly, I'll be working Saturday nights from 4PM to midnight.

So far it seems to be ok (since where I work gets Insight), so we'll see.
