BCS Title Game: LSU +1.5 vs Bama (ov/un 40.5) Mon Jan 9th 8 ET, ESPN

In 2007 most people wanted to see a conference rematch for the BCSNC because they thought the best two teams should play.

What the hell is so different now, save the conference?

Most people? Most people where? I think this might be a straw man, ubet.

I do not have the link that BKB was referring to, but as he said that only Ohio, Utah, and the SEC states were for seeing Florida, that leaves New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, California - and the rest of the damn country as wanting to see a conference rematch.

I mean, electoral votes are a pretty good population track, and using current electoral votes as a guide Florida had 136 to Michigan's 402.

I pretty much can guarantee that the U.S. population demographics have not shifted that much.

Definitely not watching this game. Sounds like a lot of people aren't:

Stewart Mandel tweet: If my readers are an indication, ESPN is in for nightmare rating tonight. But the most disgruntled also most likely to email a sportswriter.

Most of Happy Valley will be watching.
If LSU wins, Alabama will fire Saban and he's freed up to take the Penn State Job!!!!111

Precedent has been set, counselor.

Hey, I havn't changed my opinion about this. I've said all along that I wanted LSU and T.Boone Pickens State.

And i get the SEC backlash. I'm just addressing Taos' "who wants to see the game" comment. I'm thinking a whole lot of folks. We will see.

I'll tell you what happened. There was no rematch and one of the two teams that everyone thought was going to cruise to a title got blown off the field. I'm sure you remember. That's exactly why their shouldn't be a rematch this season. Matching two teams together in a title game that 1) already played and 2) are in the same conference tells us very little about who the best team in college football is.

Ahem...both teams got blown off the field.

I agree with you. I'd prefer a different match up. I simply don't think that it is accurate to say that nobody will watch, and that the consensus is more about y'alls anti-SEC deal than a reflection of a true national perspective.

Thing is, numbers do not lie. If this one lays an egg, it will be the last time they do this [Mark May]. Personally, I'd rather watch a good defensive struggle than one of those craptacular 56-52 last-one-to-touch-the-ball video games, but one thing for sure, we will all know by tomorrow.

Bammers are sure everywhere though. Hot chicks in pork-pie hats makes it slightly less annoying.

Are you seriously thinking that the same amount of people want to see a rematch of a 9-6 clusterfu...zzzzzzzz...sorry..I fell asleep just thinking about that ga...zzzz...sorry...wait..yeah, so you think as many people want a rematch of this years title game as did when tOSU beat TSUN 42-39 in what most of those same people consider to be the greatest rivalry in sport?

People will still watch because it's the only football on Monday night. I won't and I know a bunch of others who aren't.. ESPN will certainly make this look like a big ratings hit no matter what happens, but this game feels a lot less like a title game than any title game I can remember since I started watching football. Columbus doesn't give a shit about it. I'm sure there are many other college towns that don't either. Obviously where you live it's totally different.

I'd rather watch a good defensive struggle too. The key word being "good." The last one was not a good defensive struggle. It was just a struggle.

I actually enjoy watching SEC teams play. They're generally highly entertaining and play great defense. My lack of interest in this game doesn't really have anything to do with those things though. I'd rather see how Oklahoma State's offense matched up against a ridiculous defense. We'll never know, which is a shame, because that could've been a spectacular game..

I'm seriously thinking that there will not be the equivalent of tumbleweeds blowing across the dusty, abandoned Nielsen ghost town that some predict.

That about it Kyle. In a world of SEC antipathy, y'all are at the top of the mountain. I think more people will watch than you think is all.

Happy to be wrong if it implodes the BCS, don't get me wrong.

That's fine, it's still a sham.

But we have to remember that it's on ESPN... do all them trailers in SEC country have cable, or will the state flower of Mississippi take care of it?

On a local note, I'd much rather have Okie State folks here. When Bama arrives they bring coolers of beer bought in Alabama, and when they lose a Sugar Bowl you can see the line of tail lights all the way back to Tuscaloosa that same night.

The Okies would stay longer and spend more $$$$.
