Best Players by Position

AirForceBuck

No mercy
In The Dispatch today (4/21) they released an article of draft selections by the seniors. Is it safe to assume that these would be either the best underclassmen in their possition and/or the best players in their position?

I wonder why they didn't write "Defensive line?" They have "DE/Tackle" and "Weakside DE." Why separate them?

I'm also surprised Kudla wasn't first picked on defensive line. Or is he hurt, or something?

That's just the way Tressel and Heacock set it up. Because Patterson and Penton can play inside or out, they apparently wanted those guys bunched in with Pitcock, Richardson, Abdallah, Cotton, Maupin. While the speed rushers like Barrow and Gholston were treated as a separate group.

There's always a method to JT's madness, you can be sure of that. Maybe the whole thing was to make sure that Barrow and Gholston were split up, so they'd get a good look at both of them in a position of need.

Uh, do you really think that they voted Freeman as the best LB, ahead of Hawk and Carpenter (and Schlegel and D'Andrea)? :roll1: It's perfectly obvious that they were picked as the best available underclassmen at their position, and not necessarily the best on the entire team. Granted, some are the best overall at their position (Youboty, Smith, Pittman) because there are no seniors at those positions.

Mililani - Something up ur ass? With that sort of dumb ass comment seems like there might be. If you read my question it says "are these the best underclassmen in their positions and/OR the best players in their positions?" Players like Troy Smith obviously isnt a senior and could be the best player at QB, and thats where the And/Or comes in at. Same goes with Youboty, Whitner and Richardson - all underclassmen and could possibly be the best in their possition by class rank and overall. Guys like our LB's is damn obvious that they wouldnt be better than an All-American or the other starting two in Carpenter and Schlegal.

I was mainly stating that these could being the best players of their class or best players overall. NO WAY would any Buckeye follower or College fan be dumb enough to say those LB's are better than our starting 3. For Mililani to attempt a comment acting as if I am that much in the dark about our program or that his intelligence is far superior than mine that he must use a comeback in a smartass way is childish. Im sorry, I never wanted this to turn into one of the espn threads but Im not the type of guy to let someone say something that pisses me off and bite my lip...I do appologize to the mod's and by standers.

What the fuck is your problem? You initially asked, quote "Is it safe to assume that these would be either the best underclassmen in their possition and/or the best players in their position?" Which means one or the other of two possibilities:

1. They are the best underclassman at their positions AND they are the best players (overall) at their positions.

2. They are the best underclassman at their positions OR they are the best players (overall) at their positions. (this doesn't make sense)

You should've said something along the line of, "Are these players the best overall at their positions in addition to being the best underclassmen at their positions?"

Don't skip your HS English classes anymore...

If the captains want to win, I'd think they would pick players who will contribute the most (stating the obvious, I know). It seems that in recent years, the second string is the most productive in the spring game since they're the most talented players who aren't being "protected" by limited playing time.

Although you can't pass on Ginn for someone like Lyons, I think Lyons will have more chances to touch the ball. He'll probably play more sets of downs and that kind of thing.

Im sorry Mililani, I assumed in Hawwii that you didnt just surf, but knew basic english like, "and/or" and their meanings. Yes, my grammer may suck, but then again, Im niot an english major at OSU (Im a sophmore), but an art major. When "and/or" is used in a sentence, it is up to the reader to understand simply which statment would fit the applied persons. Maybe that was hard for you?

You suggest using the statment of "Are these players the best overall at their positions in addition to being the best underclassmen at their positions."

That sentence suggests that the LBs (something you were eager to bitch about) could be assumed to be the best on the team. Using a sentence like, "These would EITHER be the best underclassmen in their position and/or the best player overall in their position." makes more sense.

ie.#1 Marcus Freeman - He is NOT the best LB overall , but may be the best underclassmen LB. This is where the "or" plays in at, it gives you the option of deciding whether he is the best overall or best underclassmen.

ie.#2 Troy Smith - He may be the best QB in his class and the best QB overall. This is the part where the "and" comes in at.

When using different variables, you must adjust your sentence accordingly since there are persons who may be both ("and") or just one and not the other ("or")...Im not trying to pick a fight bro, but the way you came at me was in a way that wasnt taken kindly.

Talk about a retarded argument.

Mili, I understand you like to be the newbie police, but I don't really understand why he needed to be called out on it in the first place. The fact that he had the word "or" in there obviously proves he doesn't think that marcus freeman is the best underclassman LB AND the best overall LB.
