Big Ten Basketball Thread

That's not what the pundits say:biggrin2: We are in the best conference in the country.
We're a relatively deep conference (the difference between #4 and #10 is very small), but pretty mediocre at the top. The top teams are generally your hope to go deep in the tourney. I don't see any of the top 3 going very far. Maybe sparty, I don't like betting against Izzo, but I'm not confident. That team is flawed.

I agree. That team is Green and then a bunch of role players. He could maybe put them on his back and make it to the Elite 8, but I don't see them going further. If he has a bad game or gets in foul trouble, they could lose in the second round.

NW'ern was down by 15 in the first half at Iowa, and had a huge run to go up 42-35 at the half.

Their lead is still 7 points at the under-12 TV timeout. A win might be enough to get them into their first NCAA Tournament, if there aren't many upsets in the conference tourney winners.

It unfortunately looks like scUM is going to take down PSU today, such that an OSU win over MSU creates a three-way tie for the Big Ten championship. Tim Frazier, PSU's best player who averages 18.8 ppg, is 3-15 from the field today with 9 points.

Indiana fans are really classy:tongue2: Yesterday, near the end of the Purdue game they started chanting the name of a player who was kicked off the Purdue squad a couple weeks. Even the announcer, can't remember if it was Gus Johnson, said something that the postgame handshake might be interesting but nothing came of it. The Purdue player's name they chanting was Kelsey Barlow. Thanks might even get more interesting in the years to come.

I had a hard time believing that Green was the only unanimous first-team selection. I wonder what idiots did not think that Sullinger belonged on the first-team. I also think that Shurna should have been a unanimous selection because without him Northwestern would probably be worse than Nebraska.

I also think that Zeller and Burke should have been co-freshman of the year but the coaches picked one and the media and the media picked the other.

I also do not think that Izzo was deserving of the Coach of the Year award. I think that the guy from TSUN did a better job with less talent. I would also have given Carmody some consideration because he did so much with so little.

Weber gone

Feel bad for the guy. His players were very selfish this season.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP)?A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that Illinois basketball coach Bruce Weber has been fired after nine seasons.

The person spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because the move hasn?t been announced. A news conference was scheduled for late morning in Champaign.

The firing caps a surprising fall for Weber, who led the Illini to the 2005 NCAA title game, losing to North Carolina. He finished 210-101at Illinois, trailing only Lou Henson and Harry Combes in wins at the school.
