Big Ten Conference Divisions

Wisconsin fans are [censored]ed. They feel that they lost their rivalry with Iowa, got put in a harder division (from their perspective), and that the geography sucks for them.

Everyone else seems more or less okay with things.

Yeah, someone mentioned Iowa-Purdue getting saved instead, but the idiots but the real reason for that has to be that the idiots decided to put Wiscy and Minnesota in separate divisions so they had to save that game first.

Really they didn't do a very good job on a relatively simple thing to work out, grouping 6 teams with another 6 teams.

Look just so that this isn't taken out of context anymore I wasn't talking about tweaking it a little. I was comparing it to what they did with what they could have done, nothing they did makes more sense than East/West to me.

If Purdue/Iowa isn't the new Penn State/Michigan State I don't know which game is.

I canceled an outstanding check that I had with the University.

Got a call from the school today. Took them less than 24 hours.

At least the finance department is on the ball.

You're looking at it with an NFL mentality. The Game is still a must win because a loss that late in the year kills your NC hopes... and I'd like to think the eye will be on that prize. College, for the better in my view, is fundamentally different than the pros in that respect (and this difference is part of the reason I am against a playoff format).

Oklahoma begs to differ.

One good thing from this is that they're no longer going to have a Penn State - Michigan State "rivalry".

Another good thing, potentially, is that Penn State and Nebraska will play every year.

Camp was meant to be read as the Athletic Directors and former players. For the record I am [censored]ed off hearing Gene Smith's comments after the fact that he was for this thing from "jump street" if that's true that's pretty bad. However the Michigan camp has been all over this since it first came out, from interviews that Dave Brandon has done, to the UM vs OSU player debate on college football live. The thing that most befuddles me is that you have an actual former Michigan player as your AD right now. If we had a former Ohio State player as AD right now I'd be even more angry. I'm sure you're aware Gene is a Notre Dame guy and I hate to say it but as an Ohio State AD he isn't showing me that he gets "it" I would think the nike pro combat uniforms were a gimmick we had no use for no matter when we wore them but I for one could stomach it much better for any other game. One of the absolute coolest things about the Ohio State Michigan game is watching those helmets hit each other. Maybe the two most iconic helmets in college football wings vs buckeye leaves.

Again I never said the fans wanted it this way and I never meant it to be read that way, sorry you did. I don't know who those Ohio State fans are but they can [censored] off too. I don't want Michigan down forever. That's not me saying that I ever want to lose to a good Michigan team, but like i said in another post if any Michigan fan didn't enjoy beating us during the Cooper years that's not our fault. We were good, you beat us, you should have reveled in that not spouted off how Michigan State was your real rival. I'm not saying you specifically did that but I listened to it so many times it might as well have permeated your entire fan base.

What the hell are you talking about? When did I diss their fan bases? I feel bad for them, I think they got screwed. So you're telling me that in a year when Purdue or Iowa sucked and they played each other and there was another good game on you watched it because it is such a great Big Ten rivalry?

Here are some quotes from Iowa fans:

Not sure what the Big 10 was thinking on this one? It should have been Wisky.

I thought it would of been Minny, but honestly I didn't realize that Iowa and Purdue was a rivalry

IMO, just another reason to HATE nebraska............they stole what SHOULD HAVE BEEN our protected rival.

I believe Iowa/Purdue were likely the proverbial "last kids picked on the playground" when it came to selecting the protected rivals.

Is Purdue, still in the Big Ten ???

The ones that are in favor of the game aren't even because they like the rivalry aspect, they just think it will be easy:

I am think it's great that it's Purdue. It makes our schedule much more manageable.

In case you haven't noticed ,but not having PSU as a protected game is in our favor. It makes Nebraska's schedule tougher ever other year.

Iowa playing Purdue & Indiana while Nebraska plays Ohio State & Wisconsin is an enormous advantage.

This is the best thing that could have happened to Iowa. We get Nebraska in our division, and a great game at the end of the year. Nebraska gets PSU every year which makes there chances of winning the dvision less then ours.

So:

A. That's weak from Iowa fans but...
B. You want to try that one again?

Well I can't speak for all fans. A small portion might view the Michigan/Michigan State game bigger. Most view Ohio State as the big one. There also fans that view ND a close 2nd to OSU. There are several that hate those pricks more than OSU or Michigan St.

Plus Iowa and Nebraska are going engage in some epic battles. That might become a rivalry that will heat up soon. Some fans of certain teams didn't get what they wanted. No matter how these divisions lined up, there was going to be some bitching about schedules or alignment. These divisions could have been much worse.

I didn't get what I wanted, but just have to move on.

Yep. As a consumer that is the only power over the issue consumers have.

Getting the Big Ten Network off my box is coming as well.

I'm not going to tell you what to do with your money, but I don't understand how cancelling your donation to the University garners any "consumer power".

Cancelling BTN mkes perfect sense in this situation, but the former seems like cancelling your child's allowance because you disagree with a decision his principal made.

I think most agreed to this

Michigan
Ohio St.
Penn St.
Michigan St.
Purdue
Indiana

Nebraska
Wisconsin
Iowa
Minnesota
Illinois
Northwestern

Or make a small tweak like switching Ill with Indiana. I think most of us agreed to something similar to this.

You're absolutely correct, and to my previous point. They did review it and said the correct call was made - and the head of the Big XII officiating who was responsible for the review is a Texas alum and active supporter. And I'll just leave it at that too.

Oh, I didn't know that....sounds like a great guy

You mean the draw that Nebraska DID get? We have PSU, UW, TSUN, Iowa and OSU the next two years. All I can say is, don't whine, bring it on!

Really excited about the OSU games. My wife and I hope to be at both - in Lincoln and in Columbus the first time.

Keep in mind that Iowa and PSU are only good 2 years out of every 6 and Michigan will be down for at least 2 more seasons....you could have it pretty easy.

I am pretty excited for the arrangement. This has the look to be rather exciting for the next 4 years in the Big Ten (before the 2015 season shift to 9 games and/or further expansion). I think that the doomsday scenarios people are playing out will be too infrequent to damper how awesome adding Nebraska to the conference will be.

One quick question: are people opposed to ANY rematches in the CCG, opposed to rivalry rematches in the CCG (i.e. those protected cross-overs) or simply against a TSUN-Ohio State rematch?

Rematches in the CCG will happen. We only have 12 schools and will play 8 or 9 of them a year (with 5 of them being within the same division and thus unable to rematch)... that leaves the chances of rematches somewhere close to 50% of the time. That is often the case with the Big-12 and the SEC, but they don't happen often with their cross-divisional rivals, i.e. Tennessee-Alabama.

If people are opposed to rematches at all, then they should never have wanted the Big Ten to expand. Looking back, I imagine that many current complaints were in the past 6 months in favor of adding either Notre Dame, Nebraska or Texas to the conference. The exact same CCG, divisional alignments and other transitional logistics would have been needed and STILL rematches will happen. Seriously, its not that big of a deal. We will just have to win another game, and the Buckeyes will be amazing still.
