Brandon Harris (QB LSU - transfer to UNC)

Harris, from Bossier City, La., was one of three QBs the Buckeyes offered at the beginning of May, and watching him perform yesterday it was easy to see why. He snapped off throws on the windy day, clearly enjoying himself at a place that?s among his favorites.

?Ohio State is a top-10 program that probably would have won the national championship last year (if it had been eligible) because they would have gone against Notre Dame, because both teams were 12-0,? Harris said. ?It?s a fantastic program with a head coach like coach Meyer who obviously knows his stuff. He?s had great quarterbacks in the past, and no one is questioning what coach Meyer does.

?That?s important to me, and I am very much considering Ohio State.?

He plans to make his choice known on July 18. The experts think it will come down to LSU or Texas A&M, but he hasn?t said that. He showed up at OSU a day early for an unofficial visit and made the rounds, from meeting Archie Griffin to touring the Les Wexner Football Complex and Ohio Stadium.

?They?ve got everything you would want in a program,? Harris said.

Ball was really popping and that was into the wind...much more impressed with Harris here than on his film. Incredibly quick feet and lateral movement. I am really coming around on him.

Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets, 5/22 - Brandon Harris sets OSU visit, two new offers

Perhaps the biggest news came last night when '14 QB Brandon Harris set an unofficial visit to Columbus for May 30th. This will be a huge opportunity for the staff to impress Harris as LSU and Texas A&M seem to be in good position to land the Parkway High School (LA) signal-caller:
This article from May 22 had Texas A&M as a top competitor for Harris. With Texas A&m out of the way, looks like LSU and Alabama are now the primary competition.

Gig em was very much a player with Harris. He wouldn't have written this letter for nothing

But I find it odd that Alabama is still a player for him. Alabama doesn't have a good history with dual threat athletic qbs. The two that come to mind for me are star Jackson and Phillip sims, and neither played a snap for Alabama though sims left rather early. The qbs who have had the most success are pro style, game manager qbs who can make throws when called upon in the rare occasions, because their RBs run the offense and they always have a lot of talented ones on the roster.
LSU will be tough to beat but I'm very confident in our coaches. Sucks about Allen, but we still have Harris, and possibly darlington(though that may even be tough if he doesn't visit). And it's great that an elite 11 qb is right in our backyard in Kizer.

Wow, he can sure sling the rock! Wonder if the Bucks have a realistic shot here with all his interest seeming to be in the south...

We lost Allen, who went to a program that is only 'elite' because of it's dual thread quarterback, so that one really puzzled me. It's like Harris going to Bama, not a good fit. I didn't expect to see Allen a Buckeye, but I really didn't expect to see him at aTm. As much as I love a 'pocket passer' (I hate to see the most irreplaceable guy on the field in harms way) dual threat guys make the team more exciting to watch and I think that helps a ton with recruiting. Got to have that flash.

We lost Darlington to Nebraska, but I think that was a better fit than OSU, so I'm not that disappointed. I hope that works out. As much as I despise Bo Pelini, it's good for the Big Ten if they can turn it around. Last year they had a nice showing against Georgia. I would like to see a win against an SEC team next year.

For some reason we never went after Kizer. I feel that was a mistake. Kid was a little rough around the edges but loaded with talent. Perhaps we might be able to pull him away from Notre Dame. I think ND will likely be playing a true freshman this year who was pegged as the future of the program, so Kizer would have to sit for a while. If Zaire has a great year, a change in pledge is very possible. While we will be starting a junior and Kizer would only sit for a year and then be in open competition with Barrett.

Never really had a shot with Watson. Again, maybe if Clemson looks bad this year we may be able to sway him to see the light.

So that just leaves Harris. For a long time I was hoping for Harris or Kizer as the most plausible choices. So perhaps if we give Harris the full court press we can swing him from the more likely choice of LSU. Other than that I think we'll be waiting for someone to have a breakout senior year.

I liked Barrett as the future of the program, great talent as great attitude, but an injury to a quarterback always makes me nervous. It's good to always have 2 guys that were elite in high school on the roster in case one doesn't transition well or is plagued by injury (and two nearly elite guys that can play as a great backup). Particularly with running quarterbacks.

After a busy week in the world of quarterback recruiting, Bossier City, Louisiana quarterback Brandon Harris now stands as one of the top uncommitted quarterback prospects remaining. Harris, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound dual-threat star, has watched a number of his fellow 2014 quarterbacks pledge their commitments to schools around the SEC and the rest of the nation but says he's not changing his plans.

"I'm still sticking with my announcement date of July 18th," Harris said. "I have said all along that would be my decision date and I feel like any coaches that truly want me will wait for that date."

Harris has already taken unofficial visits to LSU, Alabama and Ohio State in recent weeks and plans to visit at least three more schools before his July 18th decision date.

"Right now, my tentative plan is to visit Auburn on July 10," Harris said. "Before that, I will visit Baylor and Ole Miss at some point although I don't have dates setup yet. I want Auburn to be my last visit so I can have a full week to soak everything up and pray about my decision with my family."

Harris, who is rated the top dual-threat QB in the nation by 247Sports, has listed Auburn as one of his top three schools for weeks and said that while recruiting is a constantly shifting prospect for him, his relationship with the Auburn coaching staff has remained strong and stable.

"I really get along so well with Coach Malzahn and Coach Lashlee. It's been great getting to know them and I think we agree on a lot of things, even outside of football. Coach Lashlee likes to call me 'Mini Cam' which makes me laugh. I'm obviously not as big as Cam but I do pride myself on my arm strength and my ability to make plays with my feet and I love Coach Malzahn's offense."

While Harris said he isn't ready to name any favorites or even specify what it is he'll be looking for during his remaining visits, he did say all the remaining contenders for his signature share one thing in common: a willingness to play a fast-paced, wide open style of football.

"It's really what college football is moving towards now," Harris said. "You're seeing it all over the country. Auburn, Ole Miss, Ohio State and Baylor all run some kind of spread formation and they all try to keep the pace high and LSU will be moving to that this fall. It's something that I think fits my skills really well."

Parkway's Harris selected for All-American Bowl

Parkway quarterback Brandon Harris received another honor on Wednesday when he received a letter indicating his selection to the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl roster.

The selection is awarded to 90 of the country’s top prep football players.

“If I had to describe the past few months, I would have to say they have been mind-blowing,” Harris told The Times previously. “It’s been really crazy. It’s something I wouldn’t have thought in a million years would happen to me.”

Since landing an initial offer from Louisiana Tech, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Harris has rapidly developed into one of the most highly recruited players in the state. According to most recruiting sites, the senior has standing offers from national champion Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, Arkansas and Ohio State among his 29 current choices. He has said he plans to visit LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.
