THIS IS NO LONGER NECESSARY!
Older (and the newest) version(s) of Internet Explorer, and others like the browser provided by AOL, are notoriously non-compliant when it comes to certain web standards, new and old alike. Sometimes this translates into posters having posting problems (like not being able to enter or submit text in posts or messages), despite BP being strictly compliant with current standards.
If you're in the unfortunate position of using one of these browsers, you have three remedies, any one of which will resolve the problem for you.
Option ONE; disable the rich web features on BP that IE doesn't handle properly:
Click on your username in the right of the navbar (just above the search field), then in the dropdown menu, click on Preferences. Under Options, uncheck "Use the rich text editor to create and edit messages" and "Use the Flash-based uploader to upload attachments."
- OR -
Option TWO; tell Internet Explorer to view BP (and any other sites where you experience issues) in Compatibility View mode:
Press the Alt button on your keyboard in the desktop version of IE 11 to bring up the Menu bar (File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help). If you click Tools, you'll have a dropdown menu and click "Compatibility View Settings". A pop-up box will appear and you can then type in buckeyeplanet.com (and any other website where you experience issues) and add it to the list. It will refresh and you should be able to post fine without any issues.
- OR -
Option THREE; use a web-compliant browser (no, MSIE11 isn't one):
Use Internet Explorer 10, or (ideally) switch to Chrome (any flavor), Firefox (any flavor), Safari, Opera, or virtually any mobile browser. These are all essentially compliant.
One of those solutions should resolve the issue for you, and you're back to posting. BP (and most modern sites) will be fastest in Chrome. Not a sales pitch; just the current state of things. Importantly, any current browser (IE included) should be fine.
For you IE 11 users. I know it can be hard to hear or believe that it's an issue with one of the most commonly used browsers, one that's developed by the biggest and most traditionally powerful tech companies in the world. Sadly, that's simply the truth of it. An upcoming update to our own software will attempt to create an IE11 work-around so that the AJAX-related shortcoming in that browser may be circumvented without the sort of remedies you see above.
