This..... 100X this.

If a kid is good enough, he will get an offer, no matter where he is from.

The biggest difference I see between Coach Tressel and Coach Meyer's recruiting strategy is that Tress used to seem to hold a scholarship or two until the very end, which allowed him to take a chance on a kid or two who might be considered reaches.

While everyone loves the stories of the AJ Hawks and Troy Smiths of the world, there are plenty of stories of 3 star kids who don't pan out.

Urban has been more successful at filling those spots with other kids (generally out-of-staters) who are more highly-recruited. Not contending either is right or wrong, just that they're different.

People keep saying urban will go national and snub Ohio because they hear it enough elsewhere. I didn't run the numbers for this class but the last two saw him offer the same bulk of the top 7 Ohioans, then he becomes selective that like JT. The difference is that when he misses on Dymonte he doesn't fall back on a sleeper from Ohio. He goes to get another super like Bell, Mitchell or Clark to replace the local kid he lost. JT had a killer eye for spotting hidden gems but they also were weak at winning high profile recruitments down the stretch and would occasionally settle.

All of which is beside the point that urban offered three Glenville kids, with his first verbal of the class coming from a project in Jones.

There are far too many personal feelings and assumptions in your post that do not pertain to what Lattimore has said publicly and privately.

No one but Sam Webb believes they are major players up north. They aren't reviled like they were under Carr (after pierre woods) or disrespected like they were under RR. Ginn Sr likes hoke a lot but they are still a fallback to OSU.

This was more of a generalization as to where recruiting has been trending the past few years, not a knock on Urban's recruiting philosophy or comparing current #'s of Glenville kids on this roster vs. one of say 5 years ago or saying that all Glenville players are going to hate OSU b/c of the exposure. Meyer and OSU will always be in the mix w/ Glenville players b/c a lot of them grow up in Ohio rooting for and wanting to play for Ohio State as I once did.

What I was trying to get across was the days of a Glenville player getting an offer and it being a foregone conclusion where they are headed are over.

I don't know when there was ever time when Glenville kids were a definite destination to osu. Just like not all cass tech kids go to scUM, or Miami northwestern kids to Miami. I honestly haven't seen a drop in Meyer and his staff going after the top talent from Glenville or from Ohio in general, it seems like a made up myth by some who are worried because we've gotten some great oos talent. We should be embracing that influx of talent. We're set to get the top 3 kids on the Glenville roster and half of the top talent in Ohio, as we did last year as well. So your assumption seem to be without merit. We're losing the 2nd and 3rd tier Ohio talent to schools like uk, and those guys were players that tress would go after. And urban isn't settling for them, which is good in keeping up the high end talent at osu. But it's far off in thinking urban isn't going after the best in state talent and especially the guys from Glenville. I haven't heard one bad word said from ginn sr about Meyer and staff so I'd chill out if I were you and enjoy ALL of the talent we've been getting in, no matter where they come from.

Who needs to simmer down? You 2 are the ones attacking me. I am quite happy w/ the recruiting efforts, despite the way you make it appear.

And I do believe you are wrong about the mystique of an OSU offer if you were a Glenville kid while Tress was steering the ship, especially the early years. If I remember correctly, the WR/Ath that committed to Illinois like 6 years ago (Scott, maybe???) was the first kid from Glenville to have an OSU offer and go elsewhere. Again, to my point, it has happened MORE frequently in recent years, NOT ALL UNDER MEYER EITHER. So again, not attacking recruiting tactics, just reiterating the changing times in recruiting.

And I am on summer vacation, enjoying life and as chill as chill can be so I wish the same relaxation upon the 2 of you.

OSU has a chance to go on a 26 game winning streak and win a NC. There is a chance we could win multiple individual awards. The scary part is in 2014 we have the talent to do the same thing over again when Lattimore is a freshmen. My question would be what other program offers you that? I can only think of 2 realistic choices and we are one of them.

If you want to be challenged and play for a winner then we are your choice. If you want to eat BBQ and play hugs and kisses all day we are not your choice.

Marshon has to do whats best for Marshon. I hope he is a Buckeye but that's not up to me.

To deny that the Buckeyes have to be considered a favorite would be silly. We will likely have to wait to find out.

Maybe I missed something but who are the Glenville kids that had an OSU offer that went elsewhere under Meyer?
