Since the Browns thread was started I thought I might as well start the Bengals thread. Lets take a look at some activity this off season....

Bengals sign Antonio Bryant to 4 year deal is obviously the biggest deal this off-season. Other then that theirs now alot going on. Just a few contract extensions here and there.

Also keep this in mind. If T.O is still available after the draft I see the Bengals taking him.

Okay....Now for the Off Season Schedule

Bengals offseason calendar
  • March 29: Offseason program begins.
  • April 22-24: NFL Draft.
  • April 30-May 2: Rookie minicamp
  • May 11, 13, 18-20, 25 and 27: On-field coaching sessions (OTAs).
  • June 1-3, 8, 10 and 14: On-field coaching sessions (OTAs).
  • June 15-17: Mandatory minicamp.
  • July 24: Earliest possible date when training camp could start.
  • Aug. 8: Bengals vs. Cowboys in Hall of Fame Game in Canton.

If anyone attending training camp this year let me know. I will be there every day.

Last but not least the season opponents...
  • Home: Ravens, Browns,Steelers, Bills, Dolphins, Saints, Buccaneers, Chargers
  • Away: Ravens, Browns Steelers, Patriots, Jets, Falcons, Panthers, Colts

We have a tough season ahead of us. As soon as dates and times are released I will post it here. I do see us at least getting two Monday night games this year.

I doubt TO is signed

with the signing of Bryant

and getting 3rd and 4th round comp picks, I imagine a a WR is taken with 1 of the 4 picks we have in round 1-3

Im seriously beginning to think that our first pick in the draft is going to be Taylor Mays. Hes actually meeting with the Bengals soon.

Electing to stand on his much-debated 40 at the combine, Mays was solid in position drills but might have left teams wondering if he has the necessary coverage and ball skills to justify a top-32 pick.

A three-time All-American, Mays finished with just five career interceptions. He was often lined up 15 yards off the line of scrimmage, raising questions if Mays can guard slot receivers in a league that increasingly employs three or four wideouts.

?I didn?t back peddle too much on film, didn?t do too many one-on-ones and didn?t play in the slot. I just took a couple steps and ran to the ball, so showing the change of direction and ball skills is what I wanted to show,? Mays said. ?These DB drills were most important to me, because that?s what I don?t show on film. They know I can run fast and hit and all that stuff, but being able to move as a bigger safety was the biggest question mark.

?In the NFL, you get paid to get interceptions. I wasn?t really coached to do that at USC,? he said.

With his former coach in Austin attending Texas? pro day, Mays admitted his pre-draft routine is the opposite of how he was treated as a top player in high school.

?Man, when I was recruited, they were loving me up and telling me everything in the world. Now, they killing me,? he said with a laugh.

Mays has meetings scheduled with the Browns on Thursday, the Chiefs on Sunday, then on to Cincinnati, but has not decided if he will travel to New York City for the Draft.

Brandon Johnson re-signed; Mickens waived

The Bengals on Thursday re-signed linebacker Brandon Johnson, who had become a restricted free agent on March 5.

Johnson is a fifth-year player in 2010, which will be his third season with Cincinnati.

Last season, Johnson played in 16 regular-season games with three starts. He also started the team’s Wild Card playoff game. In the regular season, Johnson finished seventh on defense with 67 tackles, and he tied for second on special teams with 12 tackles. He also recorded 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and three passes defensed.

Johnson originally was a fifth-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2006. He played in nine games over two seasons with the Cardinals in 2006 and ’07, then signed with Cincinnati as a free agent in March of ’08. He played in 16 games with nine starts for the Bengals that year, finishing second on the team with 112 tackles.

good move, he is a good LBer to have in the rotation and can start if needed

nice to see they are actually re-signing people they need to re-sign

Bengals re-sign Evan Mathis | ProFootballTalk.com

And the parade of restricted free agents, who are now restricted to the team for which they played last year, signing their contracts continues.

The Bengals have announced that guard Evan Mathis has re-signed with the team. He played in 14 games with seven starts in 2009.

He signed with the team as a free agent in 2008. Originally a third-round pick of the Panthers in 2005, Mathis had 15 starts in five prior NFL seasons, all of which came in 2005.

Love the Gresham pick. We threw to open TE's last year but Foshi and Coats just couldn't catch a cold. If Gresham would've been healthy last season, he likely would have been a top 15 pick. The '10 season looks to be shaping up well. We have retained key parts of our stellar OL, Bryant will be a big improvement over Coles, we have a legit TE to throw to (maybe 2 if Coffman is healthy), plus you obviously have Benson and Palmer. Then we have our whole defense back. So who do we get 2nd and 3rd round (we have 2 picks in the 3rd)? I doubt Mays will be available but maybe Morgan Burnett or Chad Jones at safety would be a good pick. I wouldn't be opposed to a DT with all the injuries last year, so maybe Price or Cody if they are available. People are talking WR but I am comfortable with Ocho, Bryant, Caldwell and Simpson with Gresham in the fold.

At first I was upset with the pick because Dez Bryant was on the board, but the more I think about it, the more I like the Gresham pick. Nothing like giving Carson a safety valve that can blow past defenders and can be a HUGE weapon in the red zone.

Bryant is obviously a talent but I'm tired of taking these character issue guys. Not saying Ocho is that kind of guy, but I only want 1 of those Ocho-type personalities in my huddle at most. If we hadn't got Bryant, I would've said go for it. Plus Gresham is a really good blocker too.

unless Simpson has had a major major breakthrough.......yea, 1 catch for 2 yards in 2 years

He's been injured for most of his time here, so if he is healthy he will contribute more. I know he is far from a sure thing but the jury is still out. The top 3 guys I am confident in though.

good solid day 2

round 2- Carlos Dunlap

"character risks" caused him to fall, he may have been a 1st rounder if he didnt get that DUI

good value where we got him, could be a steal if he plays to his potential

round 3- Jordan Shipley

love this pick, perfect slot WR for this team to go along with Ocho and Bryant, and he can help in the return game as well

round 3(comp)- Brandon Ghee (CB Wake)

another good value pick, needed a 3rd corner and Ghee is very gifted athletically (and he probably gets Morgan Trent out of the NB slot thank god)
