Classless Hilljacks, HC Comings & Goings (split from M. James thread)

Gut feeling is James follows Kelly to Notre Dame assuming Kelly gets that job. Just a hunch.

Only problem with that is Notre Dame doesn't even have Kelly in their top 5 wanted coaches. From what I read it goes Meyer, Stoops, Gruden, Peterson, and the TCU coach.

IIRC, Fat Charlie wasn't in their top 5 back in '04 when they began their coaching search. These things are very fluid. If they don't go after Kelly hard, they're even dumber than I currently think. Meyer is a pipe dream. There are rumors that Stoops is growing weary of things in Norman, but I don't know why you'd leave OU for ND...seems like a lateral move at best. Gruden has some ND ties, but I think he'd go back to the NFL before going to college. Peterson feels like Dan Hawkins v2.0. Patterson (TCU coach) might be a good hire. I still think despite what they say, Kelly is their man. Right now, they're probably just downplaying it. That hire just makes too much sense.

Whoops, forgot what thread this was. Totally off topic. Mods, might be time for a clip and merge...

i think it will be fairly obvious from the start what direction ND will be going in. I can't imagine Kelly would leave UC in the lurch before their bowl game. So, if he is their #1 guy, I wouldn't expect much movement for another 4+ weeks. This is all under the assumption that Kelly isn't a classless hilljack like RR.

What does being a classless hilljack have to do with anything if Kelly's chosen? Its 1 bowl game, if he chooses ND he's leaving regardless, its the end of the season, let the assistants coach and he can focus on recruiting for ND, that is if he is chosen. Not sure what was meant by that random reference to RR. Coaches do it all of the time. Was Bo Pelini classless hilljack for leaving LSU before their NC game against us? I think not. And if Kelly leaves James probably follows him as well, IMO. He's been to most of the UC home games this year and all the big games St. X played this year were at Nippert. Not trying to be pessimist but don't see him coming to cbus.

Actually, Pelini took the Nebraska job but returned to LSU to prepare for and coach the NC game against OSU.

That is right! My bad. But my point is that if a coach leaves before a bowl game, it won't affect the team. At least not in CFB. And it'd be better for the coach chosen to leave his team and focus on recruiting immediately then coach his team, who knows he's leavin them anyway. Matter of fact I think some players would be pissed if they knew their coach was going to coach them in their bowl game and then bouncing right after.

Actually, Kelly has left his team prior to the bowl game before - when he left Central M*ch*g*n to take the UC job. He coached UC in their bowl game when Mark Dantonio left early to take over at MSU. I don't think either of them belong in the same company as RichRod.

I think Bo Pelini was an exception to what's usually the norm in this kind of situation. In that case, there was a lot at stake and they wanted to make sure they had their best defense out there for a shot at the NC. If you're in the Meineke Bowl or even one of the other BCS bowls it doesn't really matter as much. Nebraska agreed, since every time LSU's defense made a big play or they showed Pelini on the screen it was going to help Nebraska recruit a little. Typically a program wouldn't want a lame duck coach around - especially with the potential for them to spoil things at the program they're leaving or using that program's resources to essentially recruit for their new program. It's just not a good situation, and West Virginia should be glad that a classless hilljack like RichRod didn't stick around for their bowl season.

Domers are being delusional with the first three. All of whom have everything to lose and nothing to gain by going to South Bend. I think ND's realistic list has Kelly on top, with Fitzgerald (won't take it), Harbaugh (probably won't take it), Peterson, TCU guy, O'Brien from BC/NCSU and a few others down the list.

If the domers lure Meyer or Stoops, I personally pledge to come down to Columbus and attend an Ohio State-Fredo hockey game in a Fredo sweatshirt while joining in their stolen hockey cheers!

BTW, a ND coaching change vbet would be a worthy idea.
