Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Hiring Manning's OC sure seemed to blow up in San Diego's face this year... :roll1:
McCoy did some work before being "Manning's OC" The dude made Kyle Orton look good, he was there when Tebow took them to the playoffs ..Gase has nothing on his resume other than being the Bronco's QB coach with Manning & the OC.... this will be a dumpster fire of a hiring and he'll be fired within 2 years

Gase was there when tebow got them to the playoffs as well, and was largely credited for making him look like a mildly competent nfl qb.

@AdamSchefter: Vikings have requested and received permission to interview Browns OC Norv Turner for Minnesota OC job, per source.

Dawn Mitchell, who follows the Vikings, posted that on FB. It was obvious Turner would be gone, be interesting if he ends up in MN, which has AP but a car crash of a passing game at the moment.

At this point the same process we're seeing or rather not seeing will be playing out again in 24-36 months. The guy coming in will have a crap roster minus a handful of pieces, a team that has low morale and a front office with no plan. No one will win with this roster, however, someone can come in and be stable enough that they start to build something instead of the stupid ass 'win now' mentality this team seems to want.

It will be different in 36 months... because if Banner fails with this coaching hire AND Haslem is still the owner, then a whole new president and/or Banner being relegated to the salary cap/negotiating contracts and a real GM is hired will be conducting the search.

You can tell in that letter Haslem is going to let Banner hang himself, and Banner knows his neck is on the line here. He HAS to make the right call and no more 1 year head coaches (Unless Haslem is no longer owner after next year) So Banner will give this guy 3 years unless he is a total fuckup and Haslem pulls the plug on the Banner experiement sooner.

Bold 1: best possible scenario
Bold 2: a given but that will lead to Haslem as Pres/GM

so, essentially the same basic track record as mike mccoy, who did well this year. the guy may well end up being a dud, but the logic behind it being presented here is a stretch.
McCoy was OC for 3 years (2010-2012) before he was hired by SD, and was a QBs coach from 2004-2009. Gase is a one year OC, with 3 years as a QB coach with 2 different teams and 2 years as a WR coach before that. I wouldn't exactly call either guy experienced, but having 3 years as a coordinator and the same basic job title for 6 years before that seems like McCoy was at least a bit less green.

This team has gambled on a string of inexperienced coaches, and he'd be the greenest in that parade of failures.

this team has tried out coordinators with long track records like chud, palmer, crennel, and shurmur. they've tried college coaches like butch davis, they've tried HC castoffs like mangini. this team has gone down just about every avenue there is with no success, and people are worried that they're probably going to hire a guy that doesn't have a long enough track record. It's like worrying about getting a herpes flair up when you've already got AIDS.

You are assuming that Banner is making this decision. Bad assumption.
