Cleveland Browns (2016 thread of unrelenting dumpster conflagration)

DraftBreakdown (I'm not going to link it) has cutups of players. I've watched Watson the past couple days. I see media hype, not a #1 overall pick.

Kid is a hell of an athlete but has a long way to go before he's a QB.

It's the modern day obsession with a players athletic ability and not what's between his ears. I'll never understand it.
Deshaun Watson is the presumptive #1 pick in 2017, but he's only 6'2" and 205 pounds, not ideal size for an NFL QB - much more Mike Vick than Cam Newton.
Great minds think alike....

What about Kizer from ND?

He made a few throws against Tejas that made me take notice of him. That backshoulder to the back on the wheel was just sexy.

Of course, I'm historically hesitant about ND QB's. Plenty of season left to go for evaluations.

Great minds think alike....

At least Vick worked from under center with full field reads and a playbook. Kids these days have zero experience with that and the learning curve entering the NFL is that much more steep.

I don't take issue with Watson's size, he'll most likely be another 1/2 to inch taller and 5-10 lbs heavier by this time next year. I take issue with everything else regarding him playing QB.

That’s the word from Adam Schefter of ESPN, who reports that some in the Browns building think Robert Griffin III’s injury could turn out to be a good thing for the franchise because coach Hue Jackson was too focused on fixing Griffin. Those (unnamed) people think that with Griffin hurt, Jackson will move on to building for the future, and Griffin is not part of that future.

If that’s the case, it suggests that Jackson isn’t on the same page as the analytics gurus in the front office, which has been reported before. It sounds like Jackson believed that Griffin could be the Browns’ long-term franchise quarterback, but the front office saw him as a stopgap until a long-term franchise quarterback can be identified.

.. 1 game in and we're already hearing of possible friction between the front off and the HC... AWESOME

Quite the contrary. There is no friction now. Griffin can't be counted on to be on the field. Always and forever.

Also, to be fair... its a bullshit report as to its tone, how can jackson be "too focused" on fixing Griffin (and consequently, I suppose, not focused enough, on finding a long term solution)? Griffin is the dude he had. DeShaun Watson plays for Clemson. (or insert your favorite guy here). Seeing what Griffin has now, precludes in no way acquiring a long term solution. The view of Jackson certainly has probably changed, and the executives view would have too had Griffin been very good.
