College Football Playoff (2017-2018 Season)

Teams still in it:

ACC
. Miami - undefeated, hasnt played anyone, VTech and ND coming up
. Clemson - quality OOC win, bad loss to unranked, defending champ
. ND - quality loss, several top25-ish wins
. VTech - quality OOC win, quality loss
* Hopefully Miami goes 1-1 against VTech and ND. That would eliminate 2 teams
* Looks like CCG will be winner of Clemson - NCSt vs. winner of Miami-VTech
* ND has Miami and Stanford left

L12
. OU - quality OOC win, suspect loss
. TCU - some top25 wins, suspect loss
. OkSt - quality loss, top25 win
*OU will play TCU and OkSt in coming weeks leading to more attrition.
*OkSt still has OU and ISU

B1G
. Wisconsin - undefeated, hasnt played anyone, wont play anyone until championship
. Good guys - quality OOC loss, quality win
. Pedophiles - quality loss, no quality wins
*All other things equal, Ohio State trumps Penn State... will play Wisconsin if they win out. Wisconsin isn't viable as a 1-loss. PSU needs Buckeyes to lose 2 games.
At most 1 team will emerge from this in position for playoffs.

SEC
. Georgia, undefeated
. Alabama, undefeated

PAC
. UW - suspect loss, hasn't played anyone
*It appears right now winner of UW-Stan will play winner of USC-Arizona. But PAC is looking most likely to be on the outside looking in this year.

- Miami and Wisconsin are weaksauce and look like pretenders... but no way an undefeated conf champ gets left out if they make it happen.
- Notre Dame and SEC could potentially throw wrenches in the system:
.....- ND is effectively a 2nd ACC participant
.....- Georgia and Bama ... we could see how prone the committee is to having 2011-esque NC replays of Conference Championships played a few weeks earlier.
.....- BXII attrition could make room for ND or 2nd SEC team - less likely is ACC attrition

It's October 29 and the national championship picture could be shaped based on which Big XII teams still have Iowa St on their schedule, and whether anyone thinks they can win.

What a time to be alive!

Nobody is getting two teams in if ND gets in, and they will with only the UGA loss. Even if the committee and conferences want to make a statement to the priests about going all-in on a conference, there'll be too much pressure from the press and espn to keep them out. My hunch is that the committee will take the domers over another one loss ACC team.

If they have anybody but Georgia at 1 I’m calling it rigged. Bama and Georgia both have been rolling teams, but Georgia is doing it more convincingly. Georgia at least went to the Donets and beat them. Bama hasn’t played a single top 50 team. And for us vs Clemson, we have a better loss and a better win. Though the middle of the acc is better than the middle of the big ten. The domers loss was week 2 to what should be a no 1 team; they have a few decent wins but no wins against a great team.
Georgia
Bama
Domers/Buckeyes could go either way

Thing about the Domers and Georgia that make them tough to take seriously is they are very one dimensional, yes they are very good at running the football but if they come up against a team that has a stout run d and is willing to put their corners on an island I wonder what would happen. We'll find out with ND vs Stanford... but Georgia I don't think they play anyone left until Bama in the conf champ.. no i dont count Barn

OHIO STATE SEEMS POISED FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT WHEN THE FIRST RANKINGS COME OUT TUESDAY

87190_h.jpg

Ohio State's 39-38 comeback win over Penn State may have put it back in the playoff picture, just in time for the first set of rankings to come on Tuesday.

The situation resembles what happened last year when then No. 2 Ohio State lost on the road to Penn State. The Buckeyes eventually clawed their way into the playoff last year but could not make the Big Ten Championship Game before it. Given how the Big Ten fared in its bowl schedule last year, the probability of Ohio State making the playoff if Penn State shut it off from the Big Ten East division championship was effectively zero.

This year, it's Penn State that's now on the outside looking into the playoff while Ohio State may have vaulted back into the field of four. It seems likely Ohio State would have secured its spot if it wins out while Penn State is now hoping for two more losses on Ohio State's schedule to return to the Big Ten Championship Game with the goal of securing a playoff berth.

I hope Notre Dame gets left out for not having a Championship-equivalent win ... but that depends as much on Miami and USC faltering as anything else.
Still, enough of this "independent" stuff.
Consolation prize - BXII getting left out for the 3rd time in 4 years could trigger some fallout.
