To be fair we all pointed and laughed when Bama fans predicted dynasty upon the hiring of Saban

IMHO everyone was wrong in those conversations. We were wrong to miss the fact that Saban had built programs to their potential at different “levels” (but the same division), proving that his program building skills were scalable. But when we asked Bama fans what they based their optimism on, they never answered with anything remotely reasonable. It was always either something inconsequential or something bat-shit crazy (like after every unsuccessful play they’d mutter something like, “it ain’t workin’ yit but ye ken see uh bit o’ the Bahr in thar”)

So while there were, in hindsight, reasons to believe that Bama fans were right to be optimistic, their optimism wasn’t based on any of those logical reasons.

With Sanders… yes he produced a winner at a lower level program. That’s a data point. Saban had proved that his approach was scalable. Sanders has done nothing of the kind.

Fans have a mixed record when it comes to laughing at other people’s delusion. But not all delusion is created equal

Gonna be interesting to see which teams not in the SEC/Big Ten get in the playoffs. TV will want ND and at least two west coasters. So five conference champs. SEC and BIG will want two more each and suddenly there will
be a cry for twenty teams in the playoffs. If Prime doesn’t win the Big 8 he ain’t getting in.
