Confirmed: D. Washington, Clifford, O'Neal

Again, this rumor has not been confirmed. The sports administration spokespeople confirm that the players are not suspended. We don't know if they actually failed a drug test or, if they did, if the test result was confirmed in a second test. Even if they did fail, the indications of the test in respect of a particular drug remain pure speculation.

So, I'm not calling anyone out, but why are we discussing the merits of alcohol versus marijuana? Why call for players to be kicked off the team?

If anything, Coach Tressel has shown us that he is not the kind of coach who takes rules violations lightly. His values also do not appear to be negotiable, depending on the need for a particular player in the lineup. If these guys are guilty of violating team rules, he will decide how severe the offense is and structure the penalty accordingly.

Personally, I am quite happy to leave the matter to Coach Tressel.

Trust the Coaches.

Tressel Quotes - these are the only statements from an identified and reliable source I have seen (Source O-Zone):

"Sometimes you don't do what you're supposed to do and you lose your car keys," said Tressel. "I guess that's as simple as I can put it."

"It's like anything else. When things aren't exactly the way they should be sometimes you lose privileges. It doesn't mean you lose any amount of work or anything, you still get to work hard. Maybe on different things," said Tressel.

"They are on the team, absolutely," said Tressel who added that he does not see any imminent threat of suspensions.

"Everything they do (between now and season opener per reporter question) will have an impact on that," Tressel said.

My guess, as disciplinary actions for MJ/Drug rule violations (especially repeat violations for Clifford/Washington if true) are pretty specific and none are imminent per JT himself, we might conclude that the rumors are either not true or highly exagerted?

I REALLY hope this isnt true.. These guys are just a couple years away from being millionaires..

January 1989: There sat Stanley Wilson. Stay straight for 15 more hours and walk out with a Super Bowl check worth a minimum of $90K and he couldn't do it.

Does the pharmacist down the road have to piss in a cup every couple months, when he could conceivably prescribe "Paxil" instead of "Plavix" to a heart patient after he smoked a doob? Are surgeons, pilots, or school bus drivers subjected to random tests?

Well in the case of school bus drivers, yes. A northern KY school bus driver was found to be high after a wreck. It will be a long time before she gets out of jail. But how about drug tests for the folks who ran Enron, Bears- Stern and Countrywide? On second thought, bad judgement can come from many sources. It does not require booze or weed to go off.

If you want to debate pot vs. booze, than start another thread in the GD forum...
The people that are arguing that shouldn't be.. it's a non-factor in this discussion. Bottom line is, it's against the law (whether or not you agree with this doesn't matter), it's against team rules, and it shows a total lack of commitment in what should be a special year.

These guys need to quit doing this shit for their teammates, a very selfish move on their part.

IIRC penalties for substance abuse violations are written in stone and JT doesn't have a lot of leeway after the first offense. Given JT's quotes it sounds like they didnt outright fail a drug test, but they are in the doghouse so obviously the source of the rumor knew something. Pure speculation on my part is that it might be something like they were spotted by someone hanging around with people abusing drugs, they didnt show up for a mandatory drug test, or they got caught trying to spoof a drug test but didnt test positive. Most likely we'll never know.

Why is it that every time someone gets busted for smoking pot, someone brings up alcohol? It doesn't matter whether you think pot is safer or better or less addictive or whatever.... at this present time, alcohol is legal (at a certain age) and pot is not. Period.
I am so tired of these, "fuck the rules, I'm (insert name here) and I can do whatever I want." If the rumor is true, I say kick all their asses off the team and set an example.

I think if you knew how many athletes smoke grass you'd fall out of your chair.

Agree we may never know, which unfortunately leads to further rumors, etc. etc. However, I trust JT will deal with them fairly and approriately, despite those who will always think otherwise and report the worst. Too bad though, that some of these kids don't fully understand their opportuities and also how fragile their football future may be.

Can somebody please give me some proof, any proof, even circumstantial proof, that any of these guys are trouble because of anything to do with pot? Or any drug? No? Then again, let's stop trying to crucify them. Nobody knows what they did, or even if they did anything. Enough already...

It might help to remove the "may have failed drug tests" in the title.

Failed drug tests.

How about we hope it was just pot?
