Lotta positive well wishing over at Irish Envy for Dayne. He's been a class act all 4 years despite getting benched after the first half of the South Florida game this year. Also saw this:

Dayne tweeted a very good message earlier today. It was along the lines of how he can't believe all the positive support he is getting from ND fans and the school. Doesn't regret anything over the last 4 years and thanked everyone for the opportunity he was given.

I've got a lot of respect for Dayne. He went through two back to back season ending knee injuries to come back this year. The job was his to lose, and some bad luck against South Florida cost him the position. By all accounts he was a big time recruit coming out of California, tutored by the same QB coach that Clausen had. He had all the tools, athletic, and a big arm. It just didn't transfer to a lot of wins as a starter, but a lot of that had to do with some crummy defense early last year. On the flip side Notre Dame stuck with a Sophomore in Tommy Rees that few schools wanted, not considered as athletic, but could manage a game fairly well. A lot of us were rooting for Dayne to get another shot, especially after Tommy's turnover problems. He led a very nice drive against USC this year when Tommy went down, only to lose a costly fumble at the goal line that got returned for a TD.

In any case, many feel that with the true Spread qbs in waiting behind Tommy, and Crist's past injuries, he probably wouldn't have gotten a 5th year at ND next year given the circumstances. This move is the best for both parties and I'd love him to get another shot at a school that runs more of a Pro-Style offense that he's accustomed to. Given a team with a decent defense, Dayne can make the plays needed to take a team to a big bowl.

Who's he competing against? The chopped liver that Wilson beat for the job?
Copying and pasting this from another thread:

They've got 4 viable options:
Joe Brennan (RS SO)
Jon Budmayr (RS JR)
Joel Stave (SO)
Curt Phillips (RS SR)

Out of all of them, Phillips probably looks like the best bet, but he's undergone multiple ACL surgeries and I'm not sure how much he's got left. Brennan has looked raw in his limited time this season; he's got a big arm but not much control. Budmayr looked unflattering in the spring game and doesn't have much of a shot. Stave was a walk-on and has the look physically (6-5, 220) and raised some eyebrows in the spring game. He's got a puncher's chance.

In addition, they also have Bart Houston coming in, a 4-star kid from California. I'd have to imagine they'll bring him along slowly and not throw him in there right away. He's the best recruit at QB we've had in a while, and he's got a chance to be something special.

How much longer can bucky survive on rented qb`s? Seems a bit odd imho. Can they not recruit or develop talent there? It seems to send the wrong message to potential recruits and could be a long term problem down the road for them. I really like what Urban has done with the QB position during his coaching years and like having that on our side. Go Bucks
