Devin Gardner (official thread)

So doing that against 2012 Big Ten defenses is not the same as doing that against NFL defenses?

Who knew?

Who said anything about NFL defense? Just a stat someone dug up, those players listed had the 5 game stretch and are current NFL QB's. So of the players who had this 5 game streak, 50% made it to the NFL.

It's just stats and numbers. Just like Urban Meyer is the only coach to have two QB's on that list.

Since 2003 only two quarterbacks have been worth two full touchdowns, 14 points, above average*

*adjusted for strength of opponent?s throughout the entire study
Last year in five starts Devin Gardner?s PAN was, you guessed it, over 14 points. Gardner started out on fire, averaging +17.2 in his first three starts at quarterback against Minnesota, Northwestern and Iowa.
It would be nice to see an explanation of the scoring system he used, especially when it comes to adjusting for the strength of the opponent, whatever the hell that even means.

Apparently Minnesota, Northwestern and Iowa were world beaters last season that didn't require much of an adjustment.

DBB, I charge you with coming up with some BS way of adjusting stats that makes Braxton look better by minimizing the importance of games against good opponenets and maximizing against bad opponents, we'll call it "adjusting for the strength of the opponent" or something.

Oh wait, Braxton went 12-0 last year- we don't need to waste our time with worthless crap analysis to make us feel better about our mediocre QB.

Carry on.

Forget all the made up stats and expectations based on the last 5 games. The simple fact is that Borges and Hoke gave Gardner every opportunity both last year and the year before to replace Robinson so they could move to the offense they wanted to play. Gardner was not able to grab the reins until they had no choice. Now every scUM fan thinks that he is one step away from the NFL yet he will have to deal with a starting RB coming off a catastrophic injury, a rebuilt interior OL and the loss of the only offensive player that opposing teams bothered to game plan against. I am sure this is going to end up great for him.

Yes Michigan has a rebuilt interior line, but one of the best tackles In The country, both of them. Lewan is a top 5 pick. Schofield top 3 round pick already before his last season. If Kalis was starting for the Bucks this year, I do not think any one would be saying nothing. He makes Michigans line better than Anytime Omameh was out there.

Well, apparently he did it against Ohio State and they only scored 21. So, without him they only score 7 points? WTF did I just read in that link?

Gardner couldn't get out of his own way against Ohio State. As the picks, fumbles, negative 28 yards rushing, and not getting past the 50 yard line in the second half would attest.

Agreed sometimes he tries to make too much with his leg than all
The sudden it's 2nd and 22 . He needs to learn to throw the ball away and live for another down. Luckily for Michigan he has so much upside because he is just starting to be the man and staying at Qb for the first time since his freshman year.

I don't think anyone is really disagreeing with you about Gardner getting better this season and being a top 3-5 QB in the B1G. What most are saying is that he isn't going to get much support from his teammates. I can't disagree with this line of thinking.

Kalis most likely wouldn't start here this year. If he was better than Patrick, then why didn't he start over him last season? I think you have too much faith in either the rating system or Borges.

As far as Devin goes, he should be a better passer than Nard, but I don't see a great supporting cast around him.

Kalis was a true freshman last year and Omameh a 5th year senior . I get what your saying, But potential wise it is not even close comparing the two. Kalis jumped ahead of 2 or 3 upperclassmen to start this year which most Michigan people thought he would. Ohio state has couple new names on there line this year. I think after a redshirt year , at the o line position that is when the potential and steady good weight comes through.
