Okay, so I'm bored. But, over the years I've thought about this and have heard others talk about it as well. Art's gambling problems are well known. Flashback to the 1978 Gator Bowl, the "boobie" prize for the loser of the TOSU vs. scUM game. Clemson came in 10-1 and was listed as a 2 point favorite, which means depending on the time of a bet, the line could have shifted to anywhere from a 1 pt. to a 3 pt. favorite. Let's say Art got in on some action at Clemson -1.5. Could this have happened?
On December 29, 1978, I was a 16 year old kid, 5'8" about 185 lbs, slow as hell and never played a down of organized football, yet there's no way in HELL that I throw that interception. I know Coach Hayes threw the punch, but an incomplete pass sets Bob Atha up for a game winning 41 yard field goal and Coach stays here for a few more years.
Also, recently I've heard rumblings that there was a play in the 1980 Rose Bowl where Schlichter had Spencer wide open on a pitch for a TD that he opted to keep himself, and got stuffed. I don't recall the play, just some speculation that Art wasn't as excited about winning this game as the Buckeye fans out there were.
Thoughts?
