Taft standout Adolphus Washington continues to add his legacy at Taft

Adolphus Washington's stature as one of the nation?s top high school athletes was evident in Florida during a prominent basketball tournament in mid-December.

While Taft was playing in the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Washington, who has verbally committed to Ohio State for football, encountered plenty of fans who sought autographs and took pictures with the 6-foot-4, 260-pound standout.

Taft basketball coach Mark Mitchell recalls seeing a group of four children who came up to Washington and not only photos but advice about work ethic which they could apply to their future.

"He really embraced it," Mitchell said. "He was really inviting; he was really warm to the kids. It was good to see. He smiled about it and took it all in stride."

Washington didn?t seek the extra attention from the fans in Florida - those fans young and old - and several of which wore Ohio State shirts and hats.

In fact, he turned down an opportunity to be a part of the tournament slam dunk contest because he wanted the focus to be on his team. Yet, he understands the responsibilities of being a top recruit.

"It's cool with me," said Washington, who is a star forward on the Taft basketball team. "Whatever people want."

What new Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer wants could be for the defensive end to play as a true freshman based on conversations the two had before Taft left for the City of Palms Classic, according to Washington.

Is it fair to everyone else that we have the best 2 pass rushing DE in the country?????? Florida State may want to argue with me here..... But oh yeah I dont care about everyone else in the country.
