DT Dexter Larimore (official thread)

Was he wearing the dreaded boot???
No boot could be seen. My dad thought he might have a knee brace on (which makes sense with what I now know), but he was wearing all-out Ohio State jumpsuit/warmup so it was hard to say. He came out and a couple players got up to see what was up (Marcus Hall, C. Smith for sure, maybe a couple other guys). Said something, talked a little, then started laughing. *shrug* Seems cool.

No boot! :)

I was worried, too. Especially when the sideline reporter gave her update and started off with, "They looked at his knee and it's not good news."

Big sigh of relief when she finished with "It's sprained and he won't return to tonight's game." As far as knee injuries go, a minor sprain is probably the best news you can hope to get.

Here's hoping for a quick recovery and return.

When I re-watched the game I looked for the Larimore injury. The lineman in front of him cut blocked him and his foot got stuck and he hyper-extended his knee a bit while falling over the top. Happened fast and could be a quick heal injury with no tears in the ligaments.

Updates on Herron, Larimore

In the Big Ten coaches conference call, Jim Tressel sounded optimistic about running back Daniel Herron's chance to be ready for Saturday's game against Wisconsin, but doesn't expect defensive tackle Dexter Larimore to be able to play.

Larimore left the Indiana game with an injured knee.

"He probably won't make the bell," Tressel said of Larimore's chances to play against Wisconsin.

Tressel described the injury as a twist and said it would not require surgery.

Of knees and running backs

A few quick things. I will finally post my Tale of the Tape for Indiana today, by the way...

-- Dexter Larimore has a knee sprain. By definition, that means a partially torn ligament -- not all the way, obviously, or he'd be done for the year. You can play with a sprain, though it's painful. It does not heal itself, though, which means Larimore is headed for surgery at some point, probably in the offseason. It won't be major reconstructive surgery, it might be more like a scope.

When he does return to the lineup, it will be interesting to see if his level of play drops. The man has been an absolute beast in the middle of that D line. Can he be as effective, playing in pain or with a less-than-100 percent stable knee?

I am not sure if that is 100% true. Dex may infact have a partial tear. But a severe stretch of a ligament is also a sprain. If he is expected to possibly miss only two weeks there might not be a tear.

Yep, it seems more like a 1-2 week deal. Also, thankfully we are deep at DT with guys like Denlinger, Simon and Goebel all good at pushing those opposing O-linemen back.

true. Unless he has inside info of a partial tear, it seems disingenious to make it sound like a fact, that Dexter has a partially torn ligament. A knee sprain is NOT always a partial tear.....weird.

Correct. A tear would require more time, most commonly 4-8 weeks. I know that because I was a sports & exercise studies major.
