FB/LB Zach Boren (Official Thread)

1) Did we ever dump it off in the flat last yr to the FB?

2) Did Beanie not have a ridiculous season with what everyone is labeling a "under achieving" FB in Johnson and a converted OL in Whaley?

I stand by my point, that there is little need to have 3 scholly FBs on the roster (all within 1 yr of eligibility between them) with the same skillset.. Not like any of these kids are like the FB out at SC.. who makes all types of plays in the passing game..

1.) I don't recall it happening, but that could be a product of the FBs on the roster not having that as part of their skill set rather than a refusal to incorporate that in to the offense. At the very least, I want the Buckeyes to bring in young players at the position and ideally ones that have that skill, among others.

2.) Just imagine then how much better Beanie could be if there were consistency among his lead blockers? I remember Beanie getting tackled in the backfield for a safety last year by AKRON. I remember early season struggles moving the chains or breaking the plane in short yardage situations early last season. Sure, some of that can be attributed to predictable playcalling and Beanie shaking the rust off, but I'm also convinced that better lead blocking could have been a big help in some of those situations.

That's all I'm gonna say about this here. It has quickly become not so much about Zach Boren, and this is his thread.

Beyond all the measurables, depth charts & recruiting hype is something called heart, something Zach has in abundance. Factor in how his brother was treated up north, and I think you have the recipe for a wicked enforcer of vengeance, whether it be on special teams, linebacker or fullback.

Yeah, I think I'd go to war in The Game with Zach Boren.

Beanie ran better out of one back sets anyway.

I would love a throwback FB. Aram's high school film had me HYPED about the fullback spot, but injuries have limited him.

I'd love a workhorse FB back in the fold, and if the staff thinks that Zach could be that guy, than I'm all for the offer.

I could roll u out about a thousand HS football players in Ohio who have heart... that's nice that he has heart.. not sure how you know he has more heart than your average Ohio football player.. but ill take your work he has heart..

Not sure how far that takes you at the next level though..

I thought there a quote from him that said the coaches offered me a scholarship and are looking at me as a fullback.

And Ted Ginn Jr. was recruited as a defensive back...we are over a year away from some of these kids stepping foot on campus. There's a good chance some of these kids aren't even done growing...

Again, why are we so sure that Homan ends up at FB? I've heard a couple of different people say that he has the frame to end up at LEO/DE.

You have to be a special athlete to play the LEO position.. watching his tape, do you really think Adam Homan has the athleticism and ability of a Vernon Gholston, Thad Gibson, Nathan Williams?

I agree with Wad that is hard to tell where these young men will play but I think his comments are why people think Homan is FB. The coaches obviously see something in Boren that they feel will address a need. It is very clear and evident that staff will not offer scholarships to anyone that they do not feel will help this team in one way or the other or have the abality to step on the field. I guess I am saying "trust the coaches".
