Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

#1 Concern- I'm worried about Jamal Charles finding a seem and then hitting the jets.

#2 Concern- As stated before I'm afraid Tressel won't have a "shoot to kill" policy. I'm just woried that he won't be aggressive enough to win the game. Run, Run, Run, PUNT. The variety of play calls has to be very good this game.

There's not much I'm truely concerned about because I think both teams match up extreamly well.. I would say a WR getting deep, but the loss of Vince Young is going to affect how much passing game you guys have. I mean Osu has a great offense/Texas a great defense. Osu a good defense/Texas a good offense. I think that this game has the makings of being a very good game, and I don't see a clear advantage for either team really? Well besides Home field for Texas, and Leadership for tosu.

My biggest concerns in this game are stopping the run and not giving up big plays. If we stop the run, which we have absolutely done since Tressel has been here, and don't allow any 40+ yard plays, I think we win fairly comfortably.

Did you watch the last two games last year? The offensive playcalling was pretty flippin' sweet. Nice and aggressive. Fairly even for runs and passes, too. If the Bucks get up by 14+ points, the playcalling will fall mostly to runs in the fourth quarter, but I'm not concerned at all about the playcalling.

My biggest concern is our ability to stop your running game. Considering our new personnel, we could be in for a long night if your O-Line pushes us around too easily at the beginning of the game and our young guys lose their confidence early on.

That being said, I think we're in great shape if we shut down your run. Notwithstanding our lack of experience on D, if we're consistently forcing you into 3rd down and 5+ yards, we'll win b/c I don't see your new QBs being able to consistently convert in a huge game like this on third and long. Once in awhile maybe, but not consistently.

As I said before, I see this as a high scoring game, due to
1. your QBs turning the ball over a few times
2. our D having trouble stopping the run
3. our offense being pretty dynamic (notwithstanding xray's refusal to believe that our O has improved at all since last year's UT game).

My prediction all along has been us winning a close, high scoring game, something like 30-27.

Playcalling always gets more aggressive late in the season.

I will say this, the game of football has changed since the bucks last won their championship. Offense is king. Point to what you will, whether it is the fact that the more talented players play on that side or that the rule changes benefit them, the fact is that offensive football teams are winning. Look no further than the MNC last year and my point will be validated. This is the main reason that I am hesitant about this game. In years past I would have said that the Great D and good O should beat their mirror image but I am not so sure any more.

One thing is for sure, this is once again a very compelling match up. I think we can do it, but I am going to take the wait and see approach on this one.

Offense is only king in the minds of the voters. That's why the power house offensive seem to make it easier than the boring defensive teams. If other teams hadn't fallen in front of Ohio State in 2002, we wouldn't have been in Tempe, which is a joke.

HL - no question both Texas and USC had great offenses last year, but I think they were both highly rated Ds as well, were they not?

I guess what I mean is, it's true Defenses win championships, today as it was in 2002... but that doesn't mean you can't also have a high powered O.

Texas had a highly rated defense but SC not really...I believe they were #36 overall

maybe I am wrong on this, maybe its a misconception, but it seems that the ravens and bucks were the last true defensive teams to win the titles....maybe its that they have always been more rare, hell i don't know...maybe i just have been at work too long and can't think straight

I'll restate.... the winner of the NC had a highly ranked D, did it not?

05 - Texas
04 - USC
03 - LSU
02 - OSU
01 - Miami
00 - OU
99 - Flast
98 - Tenny
97 - Nebby

Find me a shitty D in that bunch, regardless of how god their Os may have been. (Note: I left 96 Florida off for a reason... if memory serves, they are the last NC winner to have an average D, at best.)

I disagree, HL... Pittsburgh's D didn't suck....

Take a look at a team like KC... All O, no D. No rings. Even the Colts weren't getting it done before Dungy decided to shore up the Indy D.

The Rams are about the only team I can recall recently that won the SB that was a team of virtually ALL offense. (And they damn near lost to Tennessee, who's Defense slowed down the attack quite well)
