The man who brought Columbus the Schmidt?s Restaurant & Sausage Haus and the German Village Oktoberfest has died. George F. Schmidt, 91, died of natural causes Monday, his family said.
Schmidt is the grandson of J. Fred Schmidt, who opened a meatpacking business under the family name in 1886. The sausage business in 1914 expanded to a stand at the Ohio State Fair operated by George L. Schmidt, father of George F. Schmidt.
