WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

This same thought could apply to the JT thread regarding the read option being 'discontinued' and such. We seem to be tinkering with but not showing the full use of Brax. Save this stuff until you need it and besides his shoulder has
more time to heal.

If his shoulder can't handle a 20 yard throw by now, then it's too late. If he can throw the ball, I'm really not sure what they're waiting for. There are 101 ways to pass the ball, so there would still be plenty of hidden gems in the bag of tricks while also showing teams that he's a threat to throw at any time.

The first time Braxton throws the ball 15-20 yards downfield the defenses will quit stacking box when Braxton is taking the snap, real fast...
You have to think they're saving that, but at this point that means week 11. Even if he can't throw with velocity he has to be able to do a throwback screen to Cardale, who could hit Jalin down field.

An "Effort" to Get Braxton Miller the Ball is not Working

MillerDirectSnap.jpg

Braxton Miller is a major part of Ohio State history, especially in the Urban Meyer era with all he accomplished, but is he a part of Ohio State’s present?

In the preseason, the answer was a resounding yes.

“My expectation is he's an impact player,” head coach Urban Meyer said at Big Ten Media Days at the end of July.

In the opening game against Virginia Tech, Miller was the player of the game and Meyer made sure everyone knew it.

“I would like to say this, that I love Braxton Miller,” Meyer began his postgame press conference.

“I love that kid, man. And obviously I love when he does the spin move and the ridiculous athletic ability.”

His 140 total yards – 61 rushing and 79 receiving – and two touchdowns in that game seemed like the norm going forward. Miller would touch the ball a lot and defenders would struggle to touch him.

That is not how the season has played out.

Since the win over the Hokies, Miller has 20 total touches and 118 total yards. He has not found the end zone since 2:05 remaining in the third quarter in Blacksburg.

For a player who elected to return to Columbus and play a fifth year at a new position, when there were rumored options for him to play quarterback elsewhere, Meyer and his staff want to reward him.

“Trying to give him the ball,” Meyer said after Saturday’s 38-12 win over Western Michigan. “It's an effort to try – we’re releasing him out of the backfield. We're flipping him the ball, lining him up with the quarterback, and we're just not having the big hits right now and we will.”

Down with BraxCat and up with BraxPopPass, BraxJetSweep, BraxRunPassOption or anything BraxNotInCat

#freebraxton

Or, up with 10 yard pass to Braxton on 3rd and 5 (whatever it was in the 2nd quarter) and him running regular routes... I mean, to me, he's really gonna have to contribute that way too for the offense to be effective... and whoever has to tackle him has to get him on the ground... get him to where he has to make one guy miss, and that doesn't always mean you have to get him the ball in stride... he can accellerate ok on his own if he has to, if my memory serves me correctly.

And don't forget up with BraxBubbleScreen. (I hate them personally, but, the more he's not taking the ball from the center or qb, the more width/depth our offense gets.)

People seem to think that Braxton is the only two time Silver Football winner. This is not true. Archie Griffin was a two time Silver Football winner, and narrowly missed out of being the only three time Silver Football winner, when he lost to Cornelius Greene in '75, because Archie lobbied for Corny. Greene won by one vote: Archie's vote.

Just saying...

IMO play other WRs other than Braxton. Then get Braxton in as a QB to run zone read 10 times a game with counters mixed in. He's just not there as a WR though. I think a player like Gibson or Kj Hill would give us a more legitimate WR threat.

Literally 4 our our top starting 5 were once running backs.

I have a feeling this is bit of Tressel-esque strategy.
They'll show Braxcat a few times every game... even if it doesn't work.
And then against somebody (MSU?), he's going to throw it.

3rd and 1 in goal-line formation
Dave Dave Dave Dave Dave Dave pass-action to the WR all by his lonesome 30yds down the field.

OHIO STATE'S BRAXTON MILLER WANTS THE BALL MORE, SOMETHING URBAN MEYER SAID HE EXPECTS FROM ALL HIGHLY SKILLED PLAYERS

61383_h.jpg,qitok=Lhf2tFU9.pagespeed.ce.N_EZCqArD0.jpg

Braxton Miller listened to the reporter's question intently, cleared his throat, licked his lips and smiled as he answered.

"Yeah," Miller said with a chuckle when he responded to a question about the conversations between both himself and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer on his involvement within the offense. Miller affirmed he tells Meyer he wants the ball more as he gets more comfortable at H-back, but it's nothing demanding.

"We talk about it all the time, situations in the game that I look forward to. Sometimes things get unraveled and it doesn’t happen, but gotta play for the next play and go from there," Miller said Monday. "I always want the ball, but expect the best and do your job."

Miller racked up 90 total yards in Ohio State's latest victory, a 49-28 win against lowly Maryland on Saturday at Ohio Stadium. He also caught a touchdown pass from Cardale Jones, his first score since the season opener at Virginia Tech. The 90 yards were the closest Miller's been to the century mark since the victory against the Hokies, where he tallied up 140 total yards and two touchdowns.

"Every good quality player wants the football, and we don't discourage that," Meyer said. "That goes back to my days in 1986 when Cris Carter was playing receiver, he wanted the ball. What did Coach (Earle) Bruce do? Gave him the ball. We don't look at that as a negative."

Carter is near the top of the all-time receiving categories in the Ohio State record book and a member of the 2013 Professional Football Hall of Fame induction class. He's one of the best threats on the outside the game's ever seen, and while Miller's not there yet, he said he's getting more comfortable after playing quarterback his entire life.

"Every practice, every game, I get better at something, not making the same mistakes that you did before and just getting comfortable with what you’re doing," Miller said. "I feel good."

Yes he did. Unfortunately, he was just as fast going backwards as he was forwards. He still scrambles as if he has the option of throwing the ball away at the end of the play. :roll1:
Braxton is rapid, freakishly athletic and incredibly explosive. He is not, however, particularly decisive. The many sacks he took when he played QB are to some degree evidence of that.
