HBO/Showtime Original Series

I have noticed that I am getting into a large number of the HBO/Showtime shows. I'm trying to figure out if the shows are just better or if I'm easily swayed by things you can't do or say on regular tv. Over the past 2 days I've watched all of Californication except for the past two weeks and am hooked. I'm also downloading Entourage, Dexter, and True Blood every Monday. Back when I had HBO I started by watching an all day Carnivale marathon and I've tried to watch most of the shows since; Sopranos (started watching when Season 5 was out and had to catch up on the first 4), The Tudors, Band of Brothers (downloaded long after it was on), John Adams, Rome, I'm probably forgetting something. The only shows I've tried to watch and couldn't get into were Deadwood, The Wire, and Generation Kill.

Am I just a pushover for some T&A or are these shows just better than regular TV?

I think these shows have attracted better writers. It seem that the Networks are so focused on advertising that they have too much control and kill the creativity.

FX has the best shows on TV right now...

The Shield
Sunny In Philadelphia
Damages
Rescue Me
Sons of Anarchy

too bad they canceled The Riches.

They canceled The Riches? I loved that show. FX is my favorite basic cable network and The Riches was their best show.

The Riches has gone bankrupt.

The FX series, which starred Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard as hustling grifters who assume the identity of a dead suburban couple, has been canceled, executives said this week.

The drama has been on shaky ground since it was interrupted by the writers strike, facing the same dilemma as another canceled FX series, Dirt.

The shortened second season ended with a cliff-hanger that apparently will not be resolved.

But FX has picked up a 13-episode second season of its freshman biker drama Sons of Anarchy.

Must have been too expensive finding wide angle lenses that could fit Minnie Driver's head. **rep to the first person that names that reference**
