How to spot a bandwagon Buckeye fan?

They wear the #45 jersey and talk about how Katzenmoyer was a beast.

That one's not as cut and dry. It's likely that they bought that #45 jersey when Katzenmoyer was playing so it may be a Katzenmoyer jersey to them just like my #5 jersey is a Michael Wiley jersey to me. Now, if that's the only great #45 from tOSU they know, then they deserve a kick in the crotch. :wink2:

No, the minimum is $2500. I am, however, proud of the fact that Ohio State allows that money to go to an academic department and not just solely to the athletic department. If someone wants to direct that money to athletic scholarships, that's great. If someone else wants to direct it to the Byrd Polar Research Center (and still get the right to buy a pair of season tickets) that too is great.

We are, above all, a university.

The minimum donation in Buckeye Club to get tickets (which of course, you also have to pay for) is $1500. I've been doing it for years.

I agree that it's nice that you can direct your money elsewhere if you wish. I just happen to like supporting the student athletes.

Or, worse from my perspective, call for the firing of the university president because they don't like the football coach: see numerous letters to the Dispatch sports editor in the 90s.

I disagree here... Had K-Ho hated on Tress, she'd have found herself hanging by her toes from a tree on the oval--for good reason.

I'm not gonna lie, I jumped on the OSU bandwagon about 17 years ago. In the span of about 5 weeks, I went to the scUM skullsession and saw a ~70 point shellacking of some no-name school. Unfortunately that meant I got to endure almost all of the Coop years. The 4 years I spent at OSU for college, some 13 years later were the best of my life. Fuck Michigan.

I'm not sure you can be a bandwagon fan and live in Columbus. The entire city eats, breathes, and sleeps OSU football. Ohio State sports owns me.

The situation in the nineties was reversed. There you had a great, dynamic president who was being demonized because he wouldn't fire the football coach.

While I certainly had some misgivings about Tressel's ability concerning off-field incidents the first couple of years (now completely alleviated), don't believe for a second that a university president couldn't have taken him out had he not been able to get the program in order the way that he has. There's far too much at stake in the larger scheme of things to let a renegade football program jeapordize the university. What the football program brings in is very minor compared to overall fundraising and research dollars.

The bowl game means more to them than beating that team up North.

Good point - though in their defense it is possibly attributable to poor parenting.

Parents: Teach your children. Traditions are passed down from generation-to-generation. You must do it actively. Anything less is treason; punishable by hanging from the nearest Buckeye Tree.

Well on most boards I would be a bandwagon fan because I hardly ever post, but in real life:

I have a ballcap I wear every game, it's spells out Woody in block letters. Then has Ohio State spelled out on top, then Buckeyes on the bottom.

I had one guy who said he was an old school Buckeye fan. Then proceeded to ask me why the name Woody was on my cap.

Contrary to the what some of our newer members seem to believe, frequency of posting has no bearing on whether someone is a bandwagon fan. Your posts, infrequent though they may be, speak well to your True Buckeye Credentials.
