But it underscores the absurdity of NCAA control. The kid is selling his own signature. Not equipment. Not access. Not getting money from boosters. Not getting paid to play. Just selling his own personal signature.
Access? Yes.
Money from boosters? Yes.
Getting money for his stardom from playing? Yes.

I agree that the system is laughably hypocritical. Unfortunately that facade is also a necessary evil to keep the entirety of college athletics from collapsing.

You also cannot let players sell what is rightfully theirs, their very brief market value, without opening the door to rampant cash gifts under the pretense of memorabilia.

An alternative would be to stop the facade and move the money flow from under the table to full daylight.

As long as they find wrongdoings worth some good sanctions, they can take until after the Bama game, as long as it isn't longer than this year's schedule. This should provide a decent amount of entertainment. Has Freek weighed in on this yet (or Thujone for that matter)?

The amount of under the table money would be absolutely dwarfed by the amount of money if the "facade" was lifted. The "facade" is keeping shit pretty much under control. For every player who tries to circumvent the NCAA and sell stuff/services, there are a couple dozen others who refrain from doing so because of the potential ramifications...

The only circumstance I support players getting paid is for when their likenesses are being used after they graduate or have used up their eligibility.

Get him out of college football.

I think it's safe to say that Archie's legacy is safe for at least a couple of more years. No way they give it to him again after all the shit that's gone down since last year with this dipshit.
