K/P Ben Buchanan (official thread)

I'm prone to making dumb statements that no one agrees with but, considering the huge importance of the kicker in football these days and the increased importance of punting at tOSU (versus other schools), I really feel this is one of the most important commits we've got. I know he's not Adams/Brewster/Shugarts/etc, but this is a guy who will be here 4/5 years, and will likely start in close to 40 games. We'll rely on him for 300 points over that time, and possibly saving us with punts as well.

Living in another part of the country where teams and coaches don't seem to focus on the recruiting of kickers, I'm always so impressed with the focus that tOSU has on special teams and the quality of the kicking they bring in.

I love this guy.

Can't say I disagree with any of this...He has future AA kicker written all over him, just by skill alone, and to think that he is going to have our staff to learn from who seem to be able to do a great job of developing kickers...

I think we might be hearing a BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU chant in a couple years...

Wow. The kid loves OSU so much he's willing to kick without a scholarship. My favorite Buckeye as soon as he puts on his uniform, no question. I hope he wins multiple Groza and Guy awards at OSU and goes on to make big NFL money. Quality character with exceptional skills. What esle could you ask for?

Given the importance that kicker's have played in Ohio State's success on the field over the past few years I don't think you need to worry about being alone in your assessment.

Am I missing something? Where'd this come from?

Exactly. He said if he needed to he would "give" his scholarship to another area of need such as OL or DL should the staff recognize that as an area of need. They have no intentions of taking away Ben's scholarship, I'm guessing. He's just coming to Columbus no matter what and he's willing to do anything already to help the program.

By BK... Ben showed off his leg at tOSU's camp last weekend. He won the Top Buckeye award for booming field-goals of 63 and 58 yards at the end of the 2-day camp. After the camp, Ben was informed that he has been selected to play in the Army All-American game.

Congrats Ben!!
