Pavlik v. McCart

Not sure how many people outside NE Ohio have heard of Kelly Pavlik, but he fought McCart tonight. First 3 rounds were intersting, Pavlik probably had the 2-1 lead, then in the fourth Pavlik lost his balance after a slight punch, put his hand on the ground and was called a knockdown. Fifth round was Pavliks and in the sixth McCart didn't want anymore and went down for a TKO, very entertaining fight and great win for the Youngstown native. McCart isn't in his prime anymore, but I would like Pavlik to get his shot, not sure we would beat a Winkey Wright or Taylor, but I would love to see it! Anyone else see it?

Yea, I watched it (despite the fact that Wallace Matthews was a commentator). It was a pretty good fight and a noteworthy showing by Pavlik. Regardless of whom he has fought up to this point, he's beaten everyone and in fact dominated almost all of them, but this was supposedly a big step for him, since Bronco has a decent record (48 wins) and had never been knocked out. Aside from maybe the third, I thought Pavlik won all the rounds. He had a couple nice shots n the first, and in the final round, his head and temple shots just sapped the juice from McCart.

It was nice to hear MaCarty giving him some major props after the fight.

He's ready to step in against some of the top 10 fighters. Maybe a few fights against some of the better fighters, and then a title shot.

This was the first I saw of him and he certainly looked like a good fighter.

I met this kid several years ago. Very humble and seemed like a great kid. Every fight I've seen he is technically very sound and has a lot of power for his weight class...

Man of Steel

The city of Youngstown has two legacies. For much of the 20th Century, the Ohio town was known as one of the world's major producers of steel. Today, that heritage is long gone. The only steel Youngstown can brag about now lies in the fists of its boxers.

Pavlik not coming to Cleveland

Monday, March 26, 2007
It's going to happen, but it won't happen in Cleveland.
While negotiations are ongoing for a blockbuster middleweight showdown between Youngstown's Kelly Pavlik (30-0, 27 KOs) and Edison Miranda (28-1, 24 KOs) of Colombia, the 160-pound WBC eliminator is all but set for Memphis, Tenn., on May 19. It would be on the undercard of Jermain Taylor's title defense against Corey Spinks, who is a late replacement for Sergio Mora.
"The fight is going to happen," said Lee Samuels, publicist for Pavlik's Las Vegas-based promoter, Top Rank Inc. "But we don't have it done yet."

BOXING
Mister Sledge

Youngstown - Beware the man with the sledgehammer.
Kelly Pavlik, middleweight contender and an admitted fan of all that is Rocky Balboa, slams away at a truck tire in the grass field next to St. Matthias Catholic Church. Inspired by the latest "Rocky" movie, it is the final act in a long workout day as Pavlik prepares for the biggest bout of his boxing career.
To extend the pain, he pushes a friend's GMC Envoy across the parking lot at the church before his arms, legs and lungs give out.

Pavlik just beat that ass. Wow.

Great fight. There was more action in the first two rounds than there was in the entire De La Hoya/Mayweather fight. Pavlik was impressive.

Maybe Miranda should have worried a little more about Pavlik and a little less about Jermain Taylor. :slappy:

Finally there's something positive to talk about when it comes to Y-Town. What an awesome performance. Pavlik was in control of this fight from the opening round. He beat him hard and I am surprised that Miranda lasted as long as he did. Title fight is next. Y-Town will own this title!!! Great job Kelly!!!!!

PAVLIK DEFEATS MIRANDA AND TAYLOR RETAINS HIS TITLE

victory05482x316xp2.jpg

Early in the fight it was clear that Miranda's lack of decent defense was going to jeopardize even the most powerful efforts by the Colombian fighter. Pavlik took several tough shots from Miranda and easily shook off most of the damage. Pavlik locked Miranda first into one corner, then the next, then another pinballing a slow starting Miranda whose dynamic style was dependant on keeping his distance and setting up large punches.
