Lamarcus Joyner (DB New York Jets)

St. Thomas Aquinas rolls past South Broward 51-7

Kevin Grooms glanced across the field toward his opponents before kickoff Friday night and angrily muttered words of encouragement to himself -- something his coach said he does every week to fire himself up.

The 5-9, 170-pound South Broward running back had high hopes facing No. 1-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas. But the Bulldogs' spark plug just never got going, and the Raiders rolled to a 51-7 victory in front of a standing room only crowd at Brian Piccolo Memorial Stadium.

James White ran for 133 yards and scored twice, Lamarcus Joyner ran one in from seven yards and scored on a 99-yard kickoff return and quarterback Jacob Rudock returned from an ankle injury and tossed two touchdown passes for the Raiders (9-0).

. . .

Between White and Joyner, Aquinas marched right down the field and capped a nine-play 66-yard drive with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Rudock to junior receiver Rashad Greene. South Broward went three and out on their next two possessions and Aquinas scored on back-to-back drives -- first on a White 32-yard run and then a Rudock to Dorsett 14-yard pass -- to take a 21-0 lead.

. . .

Joyner then opened the second half with a 99-yard kickoff return for a score. Junior Sylvestre then fumbled on the first play from scrimmage on South Broward's next possession. On the following play, White scored on a 32-yard run to make it 44-0 and to start a running clock with 11:16 left in the third quarter.

There is a little bit of it all in this group. There will be at least five 5-star prospects on campus. There will be three players that rank No. 1 at their respective positions by at least one recruiting service - linebacker Jeff Luc (pronounced Luck) of Port St. Lucie, Fla., cornerback LaMarcus Joyner of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and safety Matt Elam of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Joyner and Shaw miss Georgia visit

Five-star cornerback Lamarcus Joyner (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Saint Thomas Aquinas) did not officially visit Georgia over the weekend as planned. Joyner said he didn't feel well and that's why he didn't make the trip. Also, Joyner said that Florida State, which has been considered the frontrunner for his services, had not slipped down his list like many have thought. He said that the Seminoles are very much alive for him and according to sources, Florida State still feels good about its chances to ultimately land the explosive player.

In his ESPN.com Southeast blog today, JC Shurburtt reports that five-star cornerback Lamarcus Joyner (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Saint Thomas Aquinas) said that he plans to be in Tallahassee this weekend for Florida State's home game with Maryland.

Joyner will join several other visitors for the game, including fellow Under Armour All-American linebacker Jeff Luc (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./Treasure Coast).

The Seminoles have long been considered the team to beat for Joyner, but Ohio State also has been strong for quite some time. Joyner made an official visit to Ohio State the weekend of Sept. 12 when the Buckeyes played USC.

Joyner is the nation's No. 5 overall prospect according to Scouts Inc.
