LB Ryan Shazier (All B1G, All-American, 2017 Pro Bowl)

Very interested to see if the Bengals go for him if he is available at #24. Plenty of mocks have us taking him and there has been a lot of interest. Not sure if he is there but I am hoping everyone passes on LBs in the first 15 picks so the teams in need of a LB (Miami, Green Bay at 19 and 21 respectively) will take Barr/Mosley and leave Shazier available. If we cannot get him, I would not mind to see Green Bay take him...Hawk and Shazier on the same defense would be fun to watch...sort of like a mini Buckeye LB dream-team.

I want Shazier in that scenario because the Bengals have done a great job of picking the best player available and not reaching in recent drafts, with much success. Shazier (even with my Scarlet-tinted glasses off) is a warrior that has a huge ceiling, tons of tangible ability, no off the field issues, and brings a pass rush/sideline-to-sideline element that the Bengals do not have in their LB corps. I think he is underrated due to size but I think he easily ends up at 240-245 in an NFL weight program and with his style of play, that is plenty big enough to thrive in the NFL.

Yeah, Miami was thinking he might be able to play MLB in their system. Not sure he fits there but if he was to make a team at MLB, he'd add some serious flexibility to a defense. The Cover 2 would suit him very well at a MLB position but the pounding against quality run games might be too much. Going to be interesting when it plays out.

God I hate this thread title change...but I am glad he got picked so high. I honestly think this was as high as he would go, probably a good decision to enter early even though I wanted him back.

Very happy for him. I completely agree with @MililaniBuckeye that this is a great fit for him. Although the Steelers aren't my team, I've always respected them & firmly believe this is one of the best places for him to thrive. Best of luck, Ryan. I very much look forward to seeing him continue his career in the Steel City.

I think this is great. I was hoping the they might take Shazier, but I didn't expect it. Most mock drafts that I saw had them taking a CB. Shazier and Timmons will provide an excellent speed combination from the ILB positions. Very cool.
