Urban Meyer's resignation was Ohio State's gain Friday night.

After Meyer stepped down as Florida's coach two weeks ago, four-star linebacker Ryan Shazier rescinded his oral commitment to Florida and at his graduation party Friday, the Plantation, Fla., native announced that he would play for the Buckeyes, Scout.com and Rivals.com reported.

Shazier is ranked as the No. 131 recruit in the nation by Scout.com and he becomes the 19th oral commitment in Ohio State's class and the second linebacker following three-star Maryland prospect Conner Crowell.

By Chris Hays | Orlando Sentinel

11:27 p.m. EST, December 17, 2010

He also messaged: "I'm not announcing yet," in the same text string. But he then finally did later Friday night, posting an Ohio State logo as his Facebook page and commenting "My future school."

About 10:45 p.m., Shazier posted on Facebook, "i shock the world tonight but i guess we all no now im going to the ohio state university." [sic]

Reached via text again Friday night after his Facebook post, Shazier texted one word as the reason for picking Ohio State, "Atmoshpere."

After committing to Florida, linebacker switches to OSU

By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

A month ago, Ryan Shazier was headed for Florida. Last night, the linebacker from Plantation, Fla., announced a change of plans.
"I've committed to Ohio State," Shazier said.

He broke the news at his graduation party from Plantation High School, so he plans to be at Ohio State sooner rather than later.

"I'm coming in January to start school and become a Buckeye," Shazier said.

He becomes the 19th commitment to the 2011 recruiting class, and the second from Plantation. His teammate, safety Jeremy Cash, committed in April.

Congratulations Ryan and the entire Shazier family! With some prominent seniors graduating, the door of opportunity is wide open. Challenge the older guys for playing time. Go earn it!

The Buckeye family looks forward to seeing you hit the field!
