Masoli and other Ducks' legal issues

Lane Kiffin came within a blocked field goal of beating Alabama -- at Alabama -- last year, something no one else came close to doing and with no where near the talent he'll have at USC. He must know something about the game.

FYI, Tennessee had some talent. 2 1st round picks, a 2nd rounder, and a 5th round QB off the top of my head.

Masoli looking to transfer:

Source: Masoli Completes Classes, Can Play in 2010

By Steve Andress

EUGENE, Ore. -- According to a source very close to Jeremiah Masoli, the former Ducks quarterback has completed his last two classes to earn his undergraduate degree at the University of Oregon, allowing him to transfer and play immediately in 2010.

The source said Masoli left campus Saturday morning and returned home to the Bay Area in northern California. Oregon Sports Information Director Dave Wiliford confirmed Masoli had one last foreign language test to finish this past week.

Normal NCAA transfer rules would require Masoli to sit out a season after transferring, but because he completed undergraduate studies, that doesn't apply. The only caveat is he must enroll in a graduate program that offers a course of study Oregon does not offer.

One of those schools could be Ole Miss in the SEC. The source said Masoli told him that is where he wants to go, and Masoli said he has already been in contact with their program.

KEZI has contacted Ole Miss to confirm there has been communication between Masoli and the University of Mississippi. Ole Miss has yet to respond, as of Sunday night.

Previous reports speculated Masoli might transfer to Louisiana Tech or Hawaii in the WAC or to Ole Miss' rival Mississippi State.

Wiliford also told KEZI that schools interested in Masoli would still have to contact the University of Oregon's Compliance Office to request a transfer. He said he was not aware of any school doing so as of Sunday night, but Wiliford also said that could change at any time.

Masoli has two more years to use his one remaining year of eligibility. Pac-10 rules would still require Masoli to sit out the 2010 season, if he were to transfer within the conference.

Former Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli interested in Ole Miss?

Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt confirmed Monday that former University of Oregon starting quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who was kicked off the Ducks team June 9 after his second arrest in six months, has sent Ole Miss his scholarship release papers from Oregon. Nutt confirmed via text message to The Commercial Appeal that Masoli ?e-mailed us his release as I?m sure he did to several schools.? Masoli has graduated from Oregon, but he has one year of eligibility remaining as he has played just three years of college football. According to NCAA rules, he would be immediately eligible at any 1-A program if he enrolls in a graduate program Oregon does not offer. Masoli?s next stop has been rumored to be anywhere from Ole Miss to Hawaii to UNLV to Louisiana Tech to Syracuse to Mississippi State, where spokesman Joe Galbraith said the school?s compliance office hasn?t received a copy of Masoli?s scholarship release. ? And Ron Zook beat a national championship game participant in 2007- of course both coaches know "the game," but until Lane Kiffin wins "the game," he has more in common with Ron Zook than any other coach out there.

Masoli - Your right, I plead guilty to stealing, oh wait I'm off the team now because I got caught smoking dope... well then NCAA, uhm yeah remember that stealing I plead guilty too.. yeah I didn't do it... didn't read the article.. just my take on what happened.

That article changed my view on Masoli. Is he immature? Yes. Is he a thug? Sure doesn't sound like it. It sounds to me that in the SAE burglary at least he was railroaded to some extent by the prosecutor and Embry.

Regardless of his complicity in the burglary, he's still a dumbass for having pot in his car when he was supposedly trying to get himself reinstated to the team.

This portion of the article was the impetus behind his departure from the Ducks:

Masoli admits that he lied about whether he was at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house on Jan. 24, 2010. He lied to Kelly, to police, to his parents.

If you can't be honest with your coach; then there's not much left that shows benefit of you being around.
