The Minnestoa that just lost by 21 at Iowa? Right now, they aren't particularly good, either.

Well if Ohio State can shoot 49% from the floor and hold Minny to 3 of 14 from 3, then yeah I'd say it's probable they would win....

But after Sunday I'm not holding my breath.

• Matchup to watch: Trevor Mbakwe is the Incredible Hulk of Big Ten basketball. Minnesota will target Amir Williams, as Indiana and Wisconsin did. Williams must be quick-thinking and quick on his feet and avoid the foul trouble that made him a nonfactor against the Hoosiers and Badgers. Mbakwe is averaging 10.5 points and 10 rebounds in Big Ten play and has the second-best offensive-rebound rate in the conference.

• Notable: Ohio State has won its past five games overall against Minnesota and its past five in Columbus against the Gophers. Minnesota coach Tubby Smith is 0-3 at Value City Arena. . . . Deshaun Thomas is six rebounds from 500 for his career. He will be the 25th Ohio State player to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. . . . It will be a game-time decision whether Minnesota forward Rodney Williams Jr. (shoulder) plays.

• Next: Michigan State, 4 p.m. Sunday, Value City Arena.

Our chances at the regular season title are just about nil now. I'm all for emptying the bench a little earlier tonight and see what these kids have when it's on the line. Who has the guts to punch back when they get one in the gut?

Put a little pressure on the incumbents and see who wants to go to the next level. That's McDonald and Della Valle mostly but some other combinations could be intriguing. See what you have coach, when the lights are on.
