Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

The body count better be at least 15 or this tragedy has to be the most overrated of all time. That Oklahoma I-40 incident killed 14 and it didn't get nearly the hype that this did.
good point. the news should have known yesterday that no more than 15 would be killed. once they figured that out, they should have pulled all coverage of the collapse of a bridge that spans the mississippi. genius idea.

Now damnit. Why doesn't President Bush have the bridge rebuilt? WTF is taking so long? ARRRGGHHHH!!!!

-Ms. Pelosi

I am pretty sure President Bush planted explosives to implode the towers, er I mean bridge on itself.

Or maybe it was because he hates all the white people that live in Minnesota.

I am so confused at this point, but I know it was Bush's fault.

I took my last final tonight of my graduate career at the U. Unfortunately I had to take Washington from my place to get there. As I passed over 35W on Washington it was an eerie feeling to look out to my left and see the end of the bridge. You can literally see the road and the concrete guardrail.... and then it just ends.

The most amazing thing to come out of this in my opinion is that there was an event where care went off a bridge into the water and Ekeen hasn't made a reference to the Kennedys yet. He's clearly slipping.

Chunks of concrete crashed down from the Maryland Avenue overpass onto Interstate 35E Saturday, shutting down the busy freeway for several hours and causing a big traffic jam. The freeway is open today.

Concrete pieces struck two vehicles, one on the hood and the other on the windshield, but no one was hurt, said Kent Barnard, a spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Transportation...
The Associated Press: Report says 1 in 4 US bridges needs upgrading

Report says 1 in 4 US bridges needs upgrading

By JOANN LOVIGLIO - 1 day ago
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - At least $140 billion is needed to make major repairs or upgrades to one of every four U.S. bridges, transportation officials from states across the country said in a report released Monday.

State officials said bridge repairs are just one element of a pressing need for more federal funding to improve the country's deteriorating transportation infrastructure.

"We need federal intervention, and federal intervention at a big level," Gov. Ed Rendell said after details were released of the report by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.

The report cited Federal Highway Administration statistics that 152,000 out of the nation's 600,000 bridges are either structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. The $140 billion price tag was derived by multiplying the total number of square meters of the problem bridges by the average cost per square meter ? in 2006 dollars ? to do the work...
