just curious what hardcore buckeye fans think.
My thoughts are that those are the exceptions that prove the rule...
Is it fair that teams of the MAC get hosed by bigger bowls when they really are deserving? Heck no. At least not if we're defining fair as "best teams go to the best bowls".
As an OSU fan I acknowledge it is incredibly easy for me to say this, but the real world just doesn't work that way. OSU has had the opposite problem on occasion. I remember the Sugar Bowl a few years ago. We were selected for it because of the size of our fan base and our "take it to the bank" TV audience; but we did NOT belong in the game. We were spanked by an FSU team that DID deserve to be there. The embarassment was exacerbated by the fact that OSU fans could see it coming and they didn't travel well that year.
Would it be nice if Bowl selections were based entirely on an OBJECTIVE analysis of which teams were best and on nothing else. Maybe.
But that's not even possible; and even if it were, it's not realistic. Sponsors put their money behind bowls to make more money, not because they want to make other people rich at their own expense.
Hey, you asked for my thoughts. My thoughts ramble sometimes...
